I know S.P. is tough and some of the others that have been mentioned are perennial powers of class A but Huntingdon is a perennial power in class AA and beat out Alcoa for a state title just a few years ago and lost to them the next year.

Let this be known. I am not a Huntingdon fan, but when they get that new offense hitting on all cylinders they are going to make an imapact in 1A ball. If they don't, I will be very surprised. I hope I am wrong because my team is in the district with them, but I really believe they will be going to the Boro in the next couple years. Maybe this year.

Thanks for the confidence Monster Man. If we can stay healthy, we will be a team to deal with this fall in class A. Not to say that we will be in the Boro or will win it all but we will have to be dealt with. That's if we can stay healthy through our brutal schedule. I actually believe that we will be better in 2010 than this year and will have more depth at most positions. All this is pure speculation until we line up on the field and play the games.

We scrimmage Obion County this Friday at UTM at 7:00 as of now. Hickman county next Friday the 22nd. I don't expect that we will look anything like we will this fall due to the baseball team still playing and a couple of injuries but it will be fun to watch some other kids get a chance to play. They might just nail down a position for fall.

Have to say Wayne County out of Middle Tenn. has a shot. They are loaded with talent and experience. Their schedule looks favorable. Lewis is rebuilding this year plus they get them at home. That would be one of the toughess normally. But not sure how Lewis will be this year. Wayne has a ton of Talent......this could and should be their year to make a run deep.

hampton should be a powerhouse this year.but I think there in the big 1A

It will be interesting to see how the playoff picks work out for 1a. If SP were to lose to Jasper and Signal Mtn, they could potentially not make the playoffs.

However, as far as 1a schools go, I will say SP, Greenback and Gordonsville in the east and Jo Byrns, Lake County and Collinwood in the west.

Collinwood? In the Top Ten? No way Jose

Even if they had the 2 losses that would mean they were at least 8-2. There were many, many teams in the 1A playoffs last year with 4-6, 5-5 records. Plus I am sure the new system takes in to consideration the losses a 1A team might have to 2A or 3A school when deciding who's in and who's out.

I agree with watch you are saying in principle. However, I haven't seen it anywhere in writing from the Great One at the TSSAA. Plus, last years win loss records isn't a good indicator due to some many teams moving up to 2a. Some of those like Oneida and TC would have moved up anyway but most wouldn't have. With 24 teams making the playoffs it will be interesting to see how it pans out. Plus, some of the districts are skewed heavily in favor of either 1a or 2a. There is plenty of room for somebody to get screwed.

The ways to get an automatic bid is to finish in the top 2 of the district, and the top team in each class within the district gets in the playoffs.

That implies that there are teams that can go 0-10 or 1-9 and make the playoffs such as Cloudland and Gordonsville respectively.

Edit: The TSSAA hasn't posted a 2009-10 Handbook or constitution and by-laws on the site yet. That should be informative when it comes out.

If your the only 1A team in the district, you don't get an automatic bid unless you finish in the top 2. Gordonsville is competing in a region, So if they're the top 1A team in the region, they gt an automatic bid.

It is funny that the TSSAA hasn't produced a handbook before laying out a very convoluted system. Now you are saying that some teams are playing in a region and others are in a district.

Districts 7 and 8 are playing as region 4 and there are a couple more in the west. I just don't them off the top of my head.

They are building a football field there I think but the rich pricks of Farragut won’t let them get lights so they are possibly looking at property to build a stadium & field with lights
