I have to disagree regarding Donovan's post goal celebration..I just watched the replay again of the 2nd goal from my DVR, he turns after scoring, and is pointing with both hands with his one finger on each hand to his own chest (and not the USA logo on the upper left chest), and clearly says "ME"......"ME" as he runs out....

 

For what it is worth...

If you have the ability to watch the replay...then that very well may be what happened. I just saw it the one time. It is kinda scary that he was so focused on himself at that moment.....it was a nice finish though.

 

However, I still say that his work rate during the tournament was higher than most of the rest of the team. Hasn't he typically played a forward position? That is where I haven't seen him work as hard. But in the midfield and in this tournament....he did play extremely well....just sad that he did get focused on "me" after the goal though if that is the case.

Sorry Siegel I kinda agree with Landon on this one. He (Beckham) is the highest paid player in the league and was to be an ambassador for the MLS, but what has he done for MLS... except Underwear and Cologne commercials? Let's face it he's just "phoning it in". /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

sorry I didn't make myself clear. I think Beckham was all about the money. My point is the way it was handled. There are plenty of people in sports of all kinds that are in the same spot, but you don't see it come out this way for a reason. They know how to deal with it. I just think it made him sound spoiled and spoke to the "ME ME ME" celebration.

Very interesting article, Sol. If it is accurate, the portrait it paints about Beckham's time in LA is not a pretty one. While Donovan is not on my "most favorite players" list, I do think it was pretty low for Beckham to demand to be the captain in place of Landon.

 

I sure hope that LA is getting a pro-rated salary refund for Beckham being gone this long. What a rip off.

you know. Last Women's World Cup. Solo delivered the team to an unbeaten streak and then, in absolute shock, they decide to de-thaw Scurry from retirement (like Rocky VII). She was absolutely sluggish in the goal. Lost the match for the team.

 

And you compare Tim Howard to her?

 

Sorry, I considered that an insult not a compliment. Yes, she was awesome in her day, but the last episode likely tarnished that image.

      Understand the young thing.  I was one of those.  Barely 17 when I graduated from high school and started college.  But redshirting for athletic purposes isn't doing them any favors, in my opinion.  Life isn't always going to be fair.

      The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.

      Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
