It was a great match the first half. 0 to 0 at halftime.

Correct.

Unfortunately for Franklin, their keeper was involved with a one v one collision after a save during the first half.

I'd change "after" to read "during"

The BHS player charged her at full speed after the save was made and in the collision the keeper took an elbow to the temple and a cleat to the knee.

The Franklin keeper and BHS forward were both charging at full speed for the ball, the keeper winning the footrace, unfortunately coming off worse in the resulting collision.

Franklin's keeper tried to return to the field at second half but began to vomit and was helped off. Word is concussion and will be out for a week. Franklin's second keeper came in and BHS scored twice within a matter of minutes.

Correct. Brentwood scored in the 47th and 48th minute.

Ref's did not control the game, which is necessary when two rivals such as these two schools play.

How so?

The BHS player should have gotten at least a yellow, but nothing was called.

I'm assuming you are referring back to the keeper/forward collision? A foul was called IIRC. Why yellow? How would a caution have prevented the injury?

Nothing could have prevented the injury. The issue is the lack of a warning and the fact that no foul was called. The play was not a 50-50 ball as the keeper had clear possession of the ball. The ball was knocked loose after the collision occurred either inside or right on the line of the "6".

I repeat, a foul and thus a free kick restart was called.

Keeper had had possession for a fraction of a second, wasn't in the air nor on the ground.

Where was the attacker supposed to go? Both players were 100% committed to winning a loose ball. Both had a right to challenge for the ball.

The collision occurred about 10 yards from the goal line.

It was one of those unfortunate incidents that happens in high level soccer.

The Brentwood player wasn't reckless, therefore no caution or warning was merited.

I guess we both have differing opinions.

I hope that Taylor recovers fully and quickly.

Briarcrest - 2

Saint Benedicts - 4

Briarcrest gave up a 1 to 0 half time lead to a very aggressive SBA team. Briarcrest scored first in the 2nd half and then SBA scored with about 25 minutes remaining in the 2nd half and then SBA tied the game up with about 12 to 15 minutes remaining in the 2nd half.

With 4 minutes remaining, a foul was called outside the box which was questionable as the entire game was played in a torrential rain and both girls appeared to have slipped going for the ball. SBA took a well placed direct kick on goal to go up 3 to 2. With seconds left, SBA scored their 4th goal.

The teams will meet up again later in the season in hopefully better conditions.

FRA 7 Mount Juliet Chrisyian Academy 0

FRA took a quick 3-0 lead then pulled some starters and really played all young players. I hate to hear it when people say coaches can't control score. In the last 4 years Coach McDonald has never scored more than 9 goals in a game that wasn't close and never has he allowed a player to score more than 3 goals unless it was a close game. He kept the game competitive without embarassing the other team and still gave some players chances to really play and develop. Not just keep away.

You are correct regarding the differing opinions. However, no foul was called as a goal kick was awarded to Franklin, which in essence penalized them on the play (all confirmed by the keeper). Each side will see the play as they choose to see it. More details to follow........

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
