Fairview goes to East Hickman

Recommended Posts

I say coupons for ice cream cones for everyone and smiley face stickers for their helmets.

There's a few ways to look at it. There are players because of position and/or talent that are going to have ample opportunity to shine throughout the course of a season. You don't want to give the same guy the team ball every week. There are players that can play their butt off every week and do their job and because of position or circumstance, won't ever get a game ball. I'd have to say that a player in high school that's motivated by game balls.........isn't much of an asset to a TEAM. Likewise for the player that's jealous because they didn't get one.

I'm not a fan of game balls either. My Tee Ball teams didn't get a freakin' game ball. It sends the wrong message. If everybody is working hard and the team goals are foremost in their minds then it's a moot point who gets the accolades. Every player on the team shares in the victories and the defeats. It's not rocket science.

I agree (not necessarily with the score) but with the game ball thing.

Little Johnny ain't Little Johnny anymore. He's a high school football player. :roflol:

before today i would of said East had a pretty good chance of winning. Now that the coach is playing the political games with his favorite It might cause some friction on the team i hope not ,but for the coaches benefit he needs to watch game films before handing out awards. I heard that someone got the game ball that was not as deserving of it as a player who should of got it, but this is all hear say. does anyone have anymore info. If this is not true EAST 20 Fairview 14 . but if true fairview 35 east 6

There are so many things wrong with this. It is a wonder we got a quality coach at all after the embarassment of last year, and now this. Did this parent go back and watch game film, set the qualifications for game ball, give players their assignments, or bust their butt getting the team ready for the season? I say this parent needs to quit their job, go back to school (or maybe go to school), get a teaching certificate, and become a coach. This is probably to much work, it is easier to stand around or get onto COACH T (anonimously) and talk about the coach. It would even be easier to say something good about the program and the coach. The sooner East Hickman parents support coaches and tell the nay sayers to go on their way; the sooner the sports programs will blossom.

well excuse me . didnt mean to ruffle your feathers . so does this mean your real name is mr.easteagle since you dont hide behind a screen name. I am sorry if this posting made a wedge in the team ., and i was wrong for posting it . i was just passing info that was passed to me. and now that i read what i put it looks and sounds awful. and the last thing i want to do is hurt the team. it looks like the town is starting to get close and i hope that continues. and my thoughts on coach King are very high he has did a fine job. my son has not been in one play yet this year and he might not ,evan so I will be pulling for EAST all the way. does any of the seniors have any schools looking at them for the next level?

I heard about the game ball.................. I have no idea where that came from,or what he did to earn that?????????????????????? I would be dissapointed to put on a game like #22 did ,and another player got awarded the ball.......... Matter of fact I would be mad. One thing is sure all the kids on the team know what the kid who got the ball is all about, no suprises. this will be a good game Friday.. sorry to say Fairview will pull the win. But it will be a good game.

I dont want to get off the game coming friday, but I have to say I am with eagle heart. I seen the game as everyone else did,No way on gods green earth did the kid who got this stupid game ball was even in the realm of deserving a game ball, though not suprised.... A game ball if given,(which I am not so keen on anyway) should be given to the most effective kid out there, who made the difference, who went over and above. The one who got it has been the coaches pet,..............must be working on the new Coach as well. It makes me kinda frustrated to see him or any other get glorified for doing nothing to validate the deed. The team won the first 2 games, TEAM, Game balls will drag a team down, starts individualism, anybody who is close to the team knows there is that one who is all about....me...me...me. now it makes things worse. I love to see veritas on here talking as a human instead of stupid riddles, now he has advice to give instead of a profit, Congrats to East on the first 2 wins, hope many more. I am 100% East supporter, Ilike the new Coach , but if your going to walk on a thin line with your teams morale....get it right.

Shock.......I'm in shock that the main discussion here is about who deserved a game ball/someone got one that shouldn't have! I figured when I came over to this board I would see positives about East and being 2-0 and playing a rival like Fairview, instead its that stuff that seems more important that the team winning.

Enough of that......this game should let East know what they have this year. Congrads to the EAST TEAM on a good start. Don't let the fussing about who got what or who deserved it divide the team, thats adult acting like kids...which they do sometimes. This team is setting the bar each time they go out now for the future teams.....You will always be the ones that got that first win and the first ones that started 2-0. Good luck this week.....let the adults act like kids and you play like men!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb:

i am not afraid to say who i am. My name is Trey Arrowood and i am the quarter back for the east hickman eagles. i also happen to be the person who received the game ball against lorreto. i am very sorry to whoever was offended by me receiving this award. i had no control over who got it and who didn't. if it would've been up to me i would've given it to anyone but me because i made more than my fair share of mistakes and my teammates did a wonderful job. it cuts me deep to know that people out there think that i'm only in this for myself and not for the team. i just wanted everyone to know that it was not my choice to recieve that award and if i would've known that it was going to hurt one of my teammates feelings, i wouldn't have accepted it. good luck to both teams.

Sincerely,

Trey Arrowood #24

A young player should not have to come on a public forum and defend themselves. IMO, this young man has a lot of class. To the adults that started this mess, I hope you feel good about yourself. This young man should be getting mentally ready for Fairview, instead, he has to worry about what adults are thinking of him. #24, you just earned a ton of respect. Good luck Friday. :thumb:

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
