Lipscomb @ Greenbrier

Following the big win over a very good Whites Creek team Lipscomb looks to maintain momentum going into this game. The Lipscomb team is young and lacks the experience of previous Lipscomb teams. They don't have a Zack Rogers, have some very good players and areas of strength that are beginning to emerge.

I'd like to hear how others feel this match-up will play out. I know Greenbrier has a good record, but don't know a lot about this years team. They lost Zack Ziegler, so how does this team compare to the 2008 team?

Greenbrier got a much needed win on the road in a big way this past week. That win pretty much puts the Bobcats in the playoffs barring a miracle scenario taking place. Greenbrier's non-district wins over Cheatham, Springfield, & Portland will serve as huge helpers if they get in a 3-WAY scenario as far as the playoffs are concerned. With a win over Westmoreland in a few weeks the Bobcats will be playoff bound..........PERIOD!!!!

David Lipscomb got a much needed win at home in a big way this past week. That win over Whites Creek puts the Mustangs in a weird situation. If Whites Creek defeats Maplewood in week ten then the Cobras will win the district and Maplewood will get the automatic nod over Lipscomb by virtue of beating the Mustangs. If Maplewood beats Whites Creek in week ten then Maplewood will have the advantage over both Lipscomb & Whites Creek. In that scenario Lipscomb would have the advantage over the Cobras as well because they have beaten them.

I have the upmost respect for both of these teams and their respective coaching staffs. I wish both the best of luck and can assure anyone that it's always worth the price of admission to watch these teams play.

Howdoitknow,

It certainly could set up a rock/paper/scissors type finish under some scenarios no doubt. This seems to me to be one of the toughest Class AA (3A/4A) Districts in the state. The most important thing is the Mustangs appear to be finding an identity and getting the people in place for a successful play-off run in 2009.

Howdoitknow . . . What goes into the figuring of WC getting the automatic #1 with a win over Maplewood. All teams would be 2-1 in the Class 4A portion of the district. Moreover, if both WC and DL run the table in the district, each of them would match the one loss record overall with Maplewood. Is overall record the next tiebreaker. Just curious as there seems to be many scenarios with four weeks to go. Thanks for providing more info.

The Cobras are flawless in the non-district with just the loss to Mt. Juliet. Lipscomb lost to Goodpasture & Overton. Maplewood lost to MBA, Hunters Lane, & Ooltewah. After WC wins the 3-WAY under that scenario then it goes to head-to-head and unfortunately Maplewood beat Lipscomb earlier in the season.

If Lipscomb wins 3 of their final 4 games then they'll be a lock for sure at 6-4. The games with CPA, East Literature, & Pearl Cohn coming up will not be "cakewalks" but I think the Mustangs will find a way to win all of them.
