#7 York @ #4 Seq. Co

York at 7 couldn't play #2 Cannon, their next opponent down would have been #3 Smith but based on the process-established well before any teams finished their regular seasons-their next opponent down was #4 Sequatchie. There was no conspiracy to get Sequatchie an easier opponent but for those thinking it, or thinking it's cute to joke about it, go ahead. Besides, if you're looking at the matchups on paper, #5 Pearl-Cohn might have been an easier opponent given the recent results (York 28-0 over Smith, Smith 9-0 over Pearl-Cohn). I'd give recent results lot more weight than what happened earlier in the season.

Nobody is saying yardage is more important than points scored, it's not even worth debating that it is or that anyone is thinking that way. It does give a feel on how any game went, not just this one. If you say "two long runs were most of your yardage" then you have to say "one long touchdown pass" was the bulk of York's yardage. Either would be an exaggeration but if you took out the two long runs, and the long touchdown pass, each would still have had about the same amount of yardage, around 180.

Passing game hurt Sequatchie, no doubt. Other than the TD passes, York also dropped some catchable balls. Those are unforced mistakes but Sequatchie had them too such as the tight end being open in the corner early in the game but the pass not getting to him. If Sequatchie makes that pass and catch as they should have, it's 28-21 with 6:30 left in the game if things go the same way after the mid-first quarter, and Sequatchie would have had plenty of time to run the regular ground-based offense. You have to play who's available as was mentioned in an earlier post but Sequatchie lost a starting corner in the McMinn Central game. Two starters in the secondary last year, Dykes and Bartley were not able to play this season. Dykes was a second-team all-area player last year, all classifications in Southeast Tennessee outside Chattanooga (Cleveland, McMinn, etc). The two corners out there Friday will both be back next year and should do better. The corner lost against McMinn Central will also be back so the secondary should be a strength. Farley at safety-running back is a good player and will need to be replaced.

Turnovers will kill any team and the point made by Ballpark is that all 4 were unforced. Does that mean they don't count, no, too bad for that, but it means York didn't do anything wonderful in gaining the ball back each time. The fumble by York was right after another unforced interception when Sequatchie was moving down the field, canceling each out. It was 2nd and 3 at the 20 at the time so there was no need to force anything but Sequatchie did and York capitalized temporarily. York had 1 turnover that was any part of the game outcome, the other was on the last play of the half on a long pass intercepted. They probably didn't worry too much about that one, just wanted to take a shot.

I certainly don't believe "2 and 44 are the whole team". They're 2 of the leading rushers and they playing in a rush-oriented offense so yes they will probably get much of the attention. If you believe they're the whole team then it's good for Sequatchie as "the whole team" will return for their senior year next season. One of these guys was in his first season after not playing as a freshmen and missing last year with an injury. It was his first season not counting a couple of scrimmages so he should be even better next season (2).

It was a clip on the punt return, and yes it was a good break as Sequatchie's coverage was poor that time. York did score later on that same drive so it's not as if they would have scored 35 points for the game instead of 28, had the return not been called back. The drive took several minutes off the clock that would have remained in the fourth quarter so you can never tell how each play could have affected the remainder of the game.

Bottom line, York was better Friday as they had fewer mistakes, and most importantly by far, more points.

Peal Cohn may have been the most talented team in our quad. Recent results do carry more weight. Wins in the playoffs mean EVERYTHING!!!

Good Job Dragons!!!

yeah marionstime save everyone a seat to watch your stinky jasper team. Many seq fans will prob be heading across the mountain to watch a 2nd round playoff game

Don't make excuses seq. co got beat by a better team which is YORk  . I was at the game seq co just two players 2 & 44 and York had a whole team. Like I said early the defence was the difference in this game Yorks step up when they had too. It does not matter how many yards you have if you don't put it in the endzone. York was the better team last night. :thumb::roflol:

Your right the defense was the difference, Sequatchie's was better. On all four turnover's you didn't have to make a play, the fumble was a bad pitch and catch and the interceptions was thrown right at you. Our QB was just trying to make a play and can't fault him for that. It's funny how winners see the game and how looser's see the game. This game could have went either way, York is a decent team and so is Sequatchie. However, York is not good enough to advance any further.

Marionstime you just worry about your little team in Jasper. Your right about not playing good teams to get ready for playoffs, but we can't help it if Jasper stinks this year. No matter what be beat Jasper this year
