Well, if you check the verbals for next year, you'll see the next thing. Glad the coaches in the state have got this thing worked out and understand the value. If you look at the MTSU roster, Middle Tennessee is dominent.

Well, it does not seem to be the case for TN Tech. Hopefully the new coach may get the message

and understand the value. Don't think it will be in the next year.

You might be surprised.

TTU's early signing 2010-2011 recruits:

...Molly Heady , Clarkrange TN

...Diamond Henderson, Kennesaw GA

...Briana Jordan, Norcross GA

...Candace Parson, Ft. Lauderdale FLA

Not disagreeing with on the need to recruit locally and establish ties with players, coaches (high school and AAU both) but if you can get better, out of state, you do it. Briana Jordan is Hoopgurlz' #6 player in Georgia this year, rated #40 among guards overall nationally. The site gives her a 90 grade. That's the same rating, for in-state and nationally, as Chassidy Fussell. Candace Parson is 6'2" and was also apparently wanted by Mississippi State. Diamond Henderson is unranked which doesn't mean she's necessarily a bad player, just not known as well. For a comparison, good players in Tennessee like Haislip, Leonard and Heady are also unranked on the site and everyone here knows they can play.

I know for a fact they were very interested in some seniors this year, whether they thought these players were better or just couldn't convince those to sign, who knows.

If they can get great players from out-of-state that's wonderful. When you have average players

from out-of-state and local talent could do as well, the in-state players should be sought after

with a passion. Need good players to win. Winning teams build great programs. Women playing on a winning team that are known in the area bring in fans. I personally have been to few games at TTU

in the last few years. Not a lot of excitement in seeing women you have no history with loose games.

I'm hoping Ms. Messer, with her energy and excitement, can obtain the right balance and we see

TTU back on top again with record attendance for women's games.

That is really not the issue. The issue is recruiting Tennessee players that can compete instead of so many of these players going out of State. Some College/Universities get it and are finding the answere. Others continue business as usual. Who is paying for the services if these institutions?Or is it just and island in the middle of the state who are strategicly placed throughout the state for the comvenience of its citizens. There are certainly reasons for this to happen but for it to consistantly happen? Of course, TT may be an exception with their course of study or is it?

It certainly is the issue, you get the best players available as long as they fit in with academics and anticipated work ethic. The coach came in and managed to keep Heady and sign 3 other good players, including at least one outstanding player. The Florida girl was probably signed at least in part due to one of the assistant's past at Stetson. You don't just forget the relationships and ties made in the past. It does sound as if what she signed was considered a stronger group than other OVC groups at least by one "expert", so you can't blame her for overlooking state talent other than Heady. Most probably have already had colleges in mind for quite a while, anyway, even before she was hired-it's her first year. If a high school coach is disappointed she didn't sign one of his or her players when a seemingly better prospect could be found elsewhere, he's not being very honest with him or herself.

Judgement is judgement. I guess that a couple of years down the road IF the record is good and the gym if full of supporters, the answer is in. On the otherhand, lets just use the last of those two, Thats what pays the bills and turns on the lights. Those players mentioned as going out of State are still there and their fans still have interest. Two more recruiting classes have gone by. Is the coach still there? Are the players still there? Is the coach familiar with recruiting in the State? Everyone is not a University of Tennessee or a Vanderbilt. What it comes down to is judgement and maybe thinking the wider range or area to pick from, the better player you might get. Some thought and experience might be just to look close to home first and then use the judgement. But that might take some salesmanship and some don't have tht ability but some do and are taking prospects right out from under the noses of others. Makes one wonder what is going on. But you have to admit that Womens Basketball is very good in Tennessee. The folks at some Universities think so anyway. Too many gyms have too many empty seats.
