Beech vs. Columbia 5A State Championship

As a former Buccaneer and coach, I just wanted to say congrats to Coach Crabtee, his staff, and the players at BHS. To do what you have done is incredible. You guys have done what many people over many years said could not be done and that was to win the 'big' game. And as a side note, I know that BHS is really in Shackle Island, but isn't it nice that the first state football championship 'in Hendersonville' is in orange and white and not on the other side of the tracks. Go Bucs.

How true.

My prediction is that the title stays in 9-AAA next year as well. Beech and Gallatin return a ton.

Can't wait until week 8 next year.

Congrats again on the win.

Didnt Oakland return a bunch of players and not make it in their bracket??

the pics really hurt columbia but in fairness Tate also hit a bunch of huge throws

They scored five tds and had right at 500 yards so the offense did not lose the game

Columbia's biggest problem is this game was the same one they had all year

a HORRIFIC secondary. Beech wasn't even a passing team and they threw it

with ease. Belew needs to find a secondary coach if he wants a gold ball

A ton of talent there at Columbia...they should be there at the end every year

in my opinion...but you need defense out of more than just the front guys

the secondary guys dont put their hands up, they dont look for the ball...they

just jog behind the receiver and never even look back

Also Belew got greedy there at the end of the half leading 21 14...he should have

run the clock down and went in up at the half...instead they turned the ball over and

made some bad decisions and went down 28 21..that was just bad coaching

That last pic by Zinnchini was really something...hes a great player

got to give it up to him for real...had he not made that play everything

might have changed there late in the game he also made some great catches

its amazing how one guy can have such an effect on a game

congrats to Columbia for a great season, it was a ton of fun to watch

Congrats Beech. Congrats Lions. The 4th and 10 TD and TD w' 5 seconds before half from the 25 should have not happened for Columbia and was poor defensive coaching.

Beech is a very well coached and disciplined team and did not turn the ball over once.

Think about this. Beech actually did not turn the ball over for their last 7 games. From the Hendersonville game until the State Championship. They never once turned the ball over and forced MANY.

This is a recipe for winning close games and beating teams that might not otherwise be beat. Beech is the smartest team I have seen. The last interception that drove a dagger in Columbia's heart, the DB did not run it out of the endzone or down it immediately. He stood there and burned seconds off the clock. Very smart.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
