This rule was put in place to keep teams from gaining a "advantage" by having girls get in more playing time. I guess they feared coaches would form a travel team and make the girls play on it. Then they could get more practice and games!!! Seems like a basketball rule to me since you don't need as many players. Our travel team was spread out all over the state so it made practice impossible. Plus some of our girls played in highly competitive districts and could not risk somebody turning them in for something. I think the rule says you can practice, but no "Game Situations". That may be the biggest "grey area" in the rule book. To us it was not worth the trouble or risk of a High School team have to forfiet wins. Don't spend to much time trying to figure this out, it is what it is, and will not change!!!!! ;)

This is indeed a grey area when it comes to interpreting the TSSAA rule regarding practice with an independent team during the high school season. Example 1) Player is having batting practice with her independent team. Coach says, " The count is full. Make contact." A "game situation" has been introduced verbally. Example 2) Player is fielding ground balls with her independent team. The coach says, "Runner on 2nd base." Again, a "game situation" has been defined. In both situations, according to the TSSAA rule, the said player could be ruled ineligible. The risk is too great. So, most high school coaches simply refuse to allow their players to practice with an independent team during their own season. That way, the player or the team is not put in jeopardy because an indepedent team may do something that could be considered a violation of the TSSAA rule.

I kind of believe the situation could be fixed simply by playing high school ball in the fall like Georgia schools. Least likley to conflict then.
bluefan23 you are completely Wrong If you want it to be like Ga then take your Sorry butt to GA there is nothing wrong with the way it is played don't like it then MOVE!!!!!

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
