State Individual seeding?

How will the state individual tourny be seeded(Criteria)? With only 8 regions and four from each region wouldn't be easy and fair to seed all 1's against 4's and 2's vs 3's in the first round with a blind draw on where each region is placed on the bracket at the start.Why is consideration given for medaling in the past and possibly even at a differant weight?

Wrestlers who meet the qualification shall be placed in each weight division in the state

tournament. In order to be placed, a wrestler must be a regional champion and must have been a

state place finisher during his high school career. The criteria for placing shall be as follows:

 

1. Separate all state champions (includes state champions from other states).

2. The following criteria shall be used to separate state champions: (a) state champion at

same weight, ( state champion at higher weight, © state champion at lower weight. (If

there are two state champions at the same weight the state champion from Tennessee will

receive the higher seed.)

3. Follow the same procedure as #2 above for 2nd place from previous year, 3rd place from

previous year, …

4. Items #2 and #3 shall be applied in order to wrestlers who placed in the state tournament

two years prior.

5. Blind draw.

 

Seems to me that 1&4 and 2&3 would be fair?

As for the reasons, only those who made the rules can answer that question.

I believe that all wrestlers must declare their weight classes and they have to be submitted to the TSSAA by Tuesday. But, the criteria for seeding is located on the TSSAA website.

The meeting starts at 10 AM central. There should be a few interesting moves based on what I am hearing but it will all play out tomorrow.

That is one I have heard potential for. There are others but I don't try and spread the rumors since nothing is definite, especially when the time until it is all known is so short.

 

Some will be watching to see if weight changes from the duals stay for individuals. Others, just some of the normal surprise moves that always occur at the seeding meeting.

Are you really saying that you think a rematch of a state final should be allowed to happen as early as the quarters?

 

Seriously, though, the rest of your proposal is already in place--ones wrestle fours and twos face threes in the first round. If all four wrestlers from one region make the semis, the alignment is always such that 1 will meet 3 and 2 v 4 in the semifinal round.

Barrel man, what is your most favorite color? is it blue, red or purple? who is your most and who is your least favorite of all TN wrestling coaches? this can include D-1 and D-2. Just curious....
