well after the show you put on, you should know everything Mrs. Compton

This conversation is unfair to Debbie and Brad. She gave Caleb congrats - she didn't go 'put on a show'. Bc she went up to Caleb, you ASSUME she is complaining. I talked with both her and Caleb. And, yes, Brad freaked out in the heat of the moment and apologized later. These guys don't always react in the best way. But when they regroup and then come out and can congratulate their opponent, then you should recognize that as well.

I thought, that when it was all said and done, everyone handled themselves well - wrestlers and fans.

Observations about fans, coaches, & wrestlers.

Lots of interesting things going on at the Region 6 tournament including:

The Negatives and Interesting:

1. Coaches accusing the folks of running the tournament of bias towards one team. Grow up coach.

2. A controversial call in the 125 lb. match between Indy & Franklin. From the stands, they both looked stuck. Ref calls the pin on Compton and the fun starts. Compton can't believe it and is obviously upset but gets it under control pretty quickly. Coach is upset but gets it under control pretty quickly. Now for mom, I guess what she did for the next 45 minutes is conduct a straw poll of every referree and fan in the gym about whether it was a defensive pin or not. IMHO, they both looked pretty stuck but the ref went to the back first rather than to the front. Oh well, tie goes to the offense.

3. Speaking of moms, I watched another mom come down to the head table after her preciuos was pinned(for what appeared to be about the 4th time). She told the referree and I quote-, "i guess you must have a date tonite as quick as you're calling pins" a long with a few more choice words that made my ears and bald head blush." I told the referee he ought to be happy that any woman was willing to pay attention to him even is she was pissed!" I wonder what parents are going to do when they cannot get on the floor at the state tournament next week?

4. I saw a parent who was coaching his child from the side of the mat give the head referee a hard time when he made him go to the stands with the rest of the parents. Ditto my questiona about what they are going to do when they cannot get on the floor next week?

3. I watched one wrestler, kick his oppenent in the head, get warned for hands to the face several time, throw his headgear, kick a water bottle, and storm off. I thought we got rid of most of those kids in Middle School?

4. I watched one of the Glencliff coaches sprint from Mat 1 all the way out of the gym when his kid did not get a call he wanted. That dude is fast. Is that considered unsportsmanlike?

The Good Stuff:

1. The 152 lb. semi-final between Newberg(Indy) and Freeman(Ravenwood). Well into the 3rd period while losing, Freeman gets his elbow injured by Newberg. The refereee deems the move that causes the injury illegal thus if Freeman can't continue, he wins. I never like to question a coach's motivation or a parents, but it sure did look like he was being encouraged to give it up. One quote I heard was, "Donovan, if you're hurt, you're hurt!". Donovan told his coach and dad he was fine and finished the match which he lost. He than walked around with ice on his elbow for about an hour, competed in the Consi - semis and won a close match 3-2 to qualify for state. It was a class act and I'm not a Ravenwood parent.

2. The Overton Heavyweight, Kristauf Tate, who is as round as he is tall qualifying for state by taking 3rd. His family was hilarious and he seems to be a great kid.

3. The 189 final when the East Lit. wrestler threw Overton's White at the very end of a 2-2 tie to win. Both wrestlers came up, hugged, and show tremendous sportsmanship. (Take notes other schools previously mentioned).

4. It was hilarious watching Cameron Croy sign autographs and take pictures with young fans. Hopefully, he's practicing for his NCAA career.

5. MatControl did a great job of running the tournament.

See everyone next week at the Ag/Expo Center

Been trying to avoid this thread because I have a few choice opinions, but here is a story that shows what regions are about. As I looked through the brackets, most held to form with seeded wrestlers making state. The only bracket that this did not hold was at 189, congratulations to Marvin Mondesir(Mon-dee-seer) of Antioch. Not ranked in the region, and finally getting to compete in the region tournament, defeated the #5 seed, lost to the #4, caught a good consolation bracket and made it to the state tournament. While in the process mauling the 3rd seeded Jamison Cherry of McGavock. Congratulations Marvin and the rest of the state qualifiers from Region 6, represent well.

Wow touchy, touchy. For a kid sitting at home this week, those are some strong words. Tell Josue good luck for me, since you will see him at school as he prepares for the state tournament. Get your skills up, then come holla at me. As a matter of fact, tell your whole team and your coach to get their skills up, then come holla at me. As a matter of fact, come to the State Tournament and holla at me, and keep your feet on the floor. One more as a matter of fact, keep the water bottles and your feet on the floor, and bring your medal with you(oh, I forgot you didn't get one)

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
