1.) I say Terry Anderson because every year his teams seem to be competitive. They play in the largest classification and have been to the state playoffs 7 of the last 9 years.

2.) I say Maurice Fitzgerald because he won back-to-back state titles and no other coach in Metro/Nashville football history can say this.

3.) Refer to #2

4.) The 2003 Class 4A State Championship Hillsboro Burros were a force winning their final 14 games in route to a state title. The 27-26 semifinal win over Melrose was one of the better games ever played.

5.) The 1997 Class 4A State Championship Pearl-Cohn Firebirds were a dominant football team. They won their final 14 games and from the opening round through the state semifinals in the playoffs they did not allow a single point against Shelbyville, Whites Creek, Springfield, & Dyersburg.

6.) The 1981 Class AAA State Championship John Overton Bobcats were a great football team led by a dominant defense and their finest effort came on the biggest stage in the state title game shutout victory over Rhea County 3-0.

7.) Frank Omiyale was an all-state offensive tackle at Whites Creek High School who went on to start at Tennessee Tech for 3 years before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. He now starts at left tackle for the Chicago Bears.

8.) John Henderson was an all-state tight end/defensive end at Pearl-Cohn High School who went on to start at Tennessee before being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is now a Pro Bowl level defensive lineman in the NFL who is among the highest paid players at his position in the entire league.

9.) Tommy Wilson is an assistant football coach at Pearl-Cohn High School

10.) Dorris Armstrong is an assistant football coach at Maplewood High School

Good post. Good reasons for each. I forgot about Omiyale and Wilson.

To add to the list of best players, Michael Coleman-Stratford

You might add Cory Fleming to that list as i remember him being a dominate QB/Athlete. Santonio Beard is another metro product who was blessed with a bunch of talent. Shelton Quarles and Overton's Gooch and earlier there was Keith Davis from OVT were excellent high school football players imo.

Don't be surprised if the new coach at Maplewood was not a head coach at another Metro School last season. Let's see: Spears from East Lit. to Hillwood, Mose from Hillwood to the Creek. Who does that leave to shift schools?? Anderson, nope; Woodward, nope; Campbell, leave East Nashville-never!, Marino, possibility? Talent better at Maplewood than Cane Ridge or Glencliff?? Oh yeah! And where will Broome land???

I am going to throw a couple of names out there that might get a shot this time around, Matt Clay-DC at Hillsboro, and Brandon Easley-former asst. coach at Glencliff. Both have the know how to run a team and IMO would be good head coaches

Clay interviewed when the job first came open. He wasn't hired and the job opened back up. Don't know anything about Easley. Question for the board .... who will replace Scott Brunette (Metro AD) in the fall of 2010? I would have pegged Tribue in this spot a few years ago but probably not now.
