bobcatfan300
What do you think of making basketball like football with 6 classifications? 1-100 for the smallest, 101-300, 301-500, 501-800, 801-1000, 1000-1400, and 1400 and up...or something like that. Right now there are schools with 100 or less trying to beat much bigger...schools like Jackson Co. with over 500 for example. This has worked for football and could be great for basketball...more schools would have a chance to go to a state tournament, TSSAA would make more money so they would have to go for it, etc.
BigDaddy_1
Please NO! Football is too watered down as it is. Leave basketball alone. Just my opinion.
Indian
Districts would be too spread out. Four classes would work well.
BigDaddy_1
I think 3 is plenty.
theCoach07
Listen if you cannot beat Jackson County don't mess up basketball, like they already have football. It is not the size of the school. It is the fan support, coaching, and the past record of success. And when JC and Clarkrange have a down year they are not on here complaining about someone having an unfair advantage. Did anyone notice how Jim Brown played his freshmen and Soph's early in the year. That will pay off later. Get you a good coach, start working with players in the 5&6 grades or before. Quit crying. tradertwo
Funny Jackson Co. was used as an example, after them taking home a backseat full of gold balls in AA,with a single A enrollment(at least for one or two seasons),huh?
Indian
Just to throw it out there, in y'all's neck of the woods the districts in four classes would possibly look like this: Class A: Pickett County, Red Boiling Springs, Clay County, Clarkrange, Monterey Class AA: Jackson County, Upperman, Smith County, York, Cannon County Class AAA: DeKalb County, Macon County, Livingston Academy, White County, Stone, Cumberland County In Class AAAA Cookeville would probably be adding some serious miles to their bus. The more classifications, the further spread out the districts, that is a negative. Five classes or six classes would either result in three or four team groups, or numerous district trips 2 hours there and 2 hours back. In the first three groups above there would still be plenty of good competition.

Sorry to mislead with the Jackson Co. comment,it just fit well(check the same thread in boys B.B.for a more detailed comment). I 'm a Scotts Hill fan, (dist 15A), with probably as good an arguement for changing-up as anyone."We" lost substate games to eventual state champs more times than I'd care to count(six,I think), while only making it to the big dance just this year for the first time. I still think however that it's as close to "the right way" to do it as it can be done in an imperfect world.

Most of these play each other anyway and Cookeville has always had the farthest travel but look at how large their school is.

Indian
I've never heard any serious talk of adding classes in basketball, this was just what it could look like since the first person in the topic is for it.
