Mel Brown: McGavock (3 Championships & 3 Runner-up)

*Should have had 4 championships and 2 runner-ups but had to forfiet one championship after winning title on the field. IMO, Mel Brown is the best high school coach ever in Middle Tennessee. He acheived all of his success in the states largest classification & everyone played together. Tennessee had no D1 or D2 when Coach Brown had the reins of the McGavock baseball program.

Ernie Smith: David Lipscomb (6 championships & 3 runner-up)

Mack Hawks: Oakland (2 Championships)

Jeff Forehand: Goodpasture (7 championships & 1 runner-up)

Richie Esteep: Goodpasture (7 championships & 1 runner-up)

*I could not tell what championships were won by Jeff or Richie

Buddy Alexander: Brentwood Academy (3 Championships & 2 runner-up)

George Weicker: Franklin Road Academy (3 Championships & 2 runner-up)

The best program in Tennessee would be Christian Brothers with 10 State Championships (1st in 1948) and 10 State Runner-up (1st in 1947)

Eddie Bassham.... Longtime coach at Mt Pleasant, two state runner up... Then over to Middle TN Christian for a stint... Now at Columbia Academy....

Coach Eddie Bassham is one win away from his 500th victory so I have been told. He had some really good teams at MTP. I know he has been runner-up in state twice. 1998 I think and 2004. Did any of his other teams go to state? How many district and region championships has he won?

Yep. Coach George is who I was trying to think of.

State championships are just a small part of the criteria IMO, particularly at a rural public school like Marshall County. Gonna be a few peaks and valleys, but Coach George put a competitive product out there more often than not.

Jerry Mathis at Tullahoma is another guy that had a lot of good teams at a small public school that was competing at AAA levels of competition. His teams were always prepared and tough to beat and had a couple of state championship runs about the same time Mel Brown was winning them.

Coach Mike Morrison at John Overton High School has to be considered one of the best coaches in middle Tennessee. He is currently in his ninth year in a Metro Public School and has over 200 wins. Before this year, JOHS played in one of the toughest districts in the state with Williamson County schools and won at least 5 district titles, not including this years 12-0 district record. The Bobcats were 40-5 in 2005 as well as State runner-up. Coach Morrison takes as kids as freshman that might not make most high school teams and develops these kids so that they are contributors to the programs success. The facilities are beautiful - remarkable over the last 9 years. He works at this 24-7. Coach is an Alumni of JOHS and no one works harder than he does - he takes the kids that he is dealt and he works wonders with them. GO BOBCATS!!

    • The people need our help!
    • Lol when was last time they won region or got past the 3 rd round.
    • Gravedigger gotta finish filling the hole before hitting 40 East. May need a new Yellow Shirt play signaler on the Stones. And apparently a new strength coach now. Cicadas must've got shaken out of the bushes in Donelson. Hopefully the mower man sticks around to keep DG field looking pristine. Maybe new OC can call in a favor to his PGA friends that knows a thing or two about being green during the season. The heat is on soon. Bring in the 2 way freak Iceman and cool things off. He knows a thing or 2 about wildcats. Gotta take our talents South soon for Nationals. Don't step on my blue suede shoes.
