I want to say a "big congrats" to my son, Jaz Davis, from Hunters Lane, for being crowned the 2010 TSSAA AAA 200m Champion. He signed with the University of Memphis and will be running for the Tigers!!!! Also a big "shout out" to Laquisha Jackson, Jordan Lavendar, and Jake Rainey for putting on a clinic at the state meet. Congrats to MLK girls and boys for winning the A-AA state championships, with a special shout to defending 400m A-AA champion, Kirsten Jones (University of Maryland signee).

I’d like to congratulate Coach Al Evans and the boys Lavergne Track team for their 4th place finish at the AAA – State Championship. Also, I’d like to give a shout out to some of the top performers in the State meet from Lavergne. Lets start with Terry Hodges, winning the State Championship in the Triple jump with a huge jump of 49 feet 7 1/2 inches (2 Inches from the state record) and a 3rd place finish in the long jump. Also, a big congratulation goes out to Jarkeith Ruffin and Deon McAdoo finishing 1st and 2nd in the Discus. Lavergne “freshmen” Jarkeith Ruffin won the AAA-State Championship in the discus with a toss of 156’2 and Deon McAdoo finished 2nd with a toss of 153’0. Look for similar results for the next few years from Lavergne's throwing events!!

Congrats to these young men!!!!!!!

What would be considered a TN state level time for the 100m and the 400m for the girls high school division..? My daughter is still in 8th grade this year but I was curious about how her times look compared to the rest of the State at the high school level..

TN Girls Top 10 100m in 2010: 11.46, 11.57, 11.75, 11.86, 11.99, 12.00, 12.01, 12.03, 12.06, 12.08

TN Girls Top 10 200m in 2010: 23.71, 24.03, 24.25, 24.64, 24.82, 25.00, 25.21, 25.26, 25.27, 25.30

US Second Team Elite 100m = times at/below 12.25

US Second Team Elite 200m = times at/below 25.00

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
