Anyone think that the Smith County Owls making it to the sub-state game is surprising? Do they have a chance to go to state???

Sure they can. When you make it this far anything can happen. The sub-state is part of the state just not played on the same site. The only Owl baseball team to make it this far was in 1960 when Buck Nixon pitched for the Owls and he went on to pitch in the Braves system for many years. They lost to a team from Memphis that had long time catcher for the Cards Tim McCarver.

the substate used to be apart of the state until the tournament expanded to 8 teams.

I was told that no Smith Co. team had ever won their 1st round region game

This is true to my knowledge. But understand the sectional back then was the frist round of the state.

Well, one thing I do know is that this team has the most wins in school history.

I miss read your post. the 60 team did win their first round region game. They lost in the frist round state toury. game which would be the sectional game at this time.
