The TSSAA DEAD PERIOD BEGINS.

 

All high school gyms, athletic fields and weight rooms MUST BE CLOSED for two weeks and no contact between players and coaches for the next two weeks.

To give kids a break and coaches also time to be with their families not total year round for a specific sport. It does let families schedule vacations and the kids dont get in trouble for missing (practice). I do think their timing for this is bad tho.

I agree totally and think the dead period should be the last week in May and the first week in June...so that teams can continue to build their team and practice without the break.

Could not be the last week in may due to sum schools still going and cant clse the facilities when they have to be utilized for school.

Since when did the kids going to summer school use the gym, football field, baseball/softball field, weight room, etc, etc.

 

The schools are open during "dead period". Just can't use the athletic facilities.

TSSAA does not have the authority to tell a school system to close their schools.

Not summer school, some schools are still in session the last week of may.

Very sensable. Say 1st 2 weeks in June.

How many teams are in violation of this stupid rule? I know of several coaches who all but ignore it each year.

If one knows specifics, then should be their responsibility as a concerned bystander,coach,or whom ever to give that info to TSSAA and let them deal with it, if they decide to do anything which is very unlikely. But you would know you did the right thing and reported it.
