I think TN, overall is satisfied with doing folkstyle all year. Qualify for state, hopefully place, then maybe go to folkstyle nationals some where since there are seveeral National Titles in that AAU, NHS etc.

Not just one National Title like Freestyle and Greco.

The restrictive rules set up by TSSAA prohibit many of the people who care (high school coaches) from doing anything productive regarding freestyle and greco. That is the problem in TN. It is not that we don't care or don't want to; WE CAN'T w/out breaking TSSAA rules. I know of many area coaches (myself included) that would do anything we can w/ freestyle and greco but can not because of the contact prohibition w/ our athletes.

Maybe we can get a merger where TSSAA and USA wrestling can come together and make Tennessee equal to other states??? Couldnt someone talk to TSSAA and get Freestyle and Greco together like say Indiana and Illinois does?? THey have Folkstyle state then freestyle and greco state? Which is run by same organization...TSSAA would love the opportunity to make more money. We as coaches would love to have more wrestling. Well lets get these to together and make wrestling grow in Tennessee.

They way it was originally set up was that any wrestling after the state tourny was to be conducted thu freestyle and greco. The TSSAA was going to prohibit any further wrestling after state, but agreed to allow the state to utilize freestyle and greco as the only means to wrestle. A great person who knows this info would be Coach Miller at CHS.

Now everyone wants to wrestle and folkstyle and have duals and such in the summer it has had the downfall of freestyle and greco.

Ga has the same rules as Tn and they make it work.They schedule Coaches at dif venues than there own gym and Coach kids from other places.They also dont charge for it as some of the area clubs do down in Chattanooga so if you dont have money you still can get in practices.Coach Derek of King College did a great job of working with kids this spring and the wrestlers from that neck of the woods will be better for it this winter.Guess the good Coaching from Coach Al Miller is what has helped make Derek the man he is today.Ask Al Miller what he got paid to coach all those years. I am sure it was nothing but that man still spent countless hours of making Tn wrestling better.(still spending time with team Tn)
