There are a number of B.A. supporters on here, and I'd like to actually learn a lot more about the B.A. team this year. Could someone help me out with some more names (with heights), possible starting lineup, etc......

I know BA was solid last year, has a great coach, and lost almost nobody. Plus, the best Freshman in middle Tn, Brandon Wright is now at school. I know Jr G Scotty Reall, but haven't seen him in a while: is he going to be a big piece this year? Also, there is a 6'7 Sr Post, but I can't remember his name. I know Chris Slay is also a Frosh.....

So can someone help me out with some more details........... :D

Judging from last year, they should look pretty good. I saw King Dunlap over the weekend and he looks about 6'9. He's one big fella. Reall should step it up this year as far as scoring goes. There other guard will step it up as well. They still go real deep into their bench. Dunlap has all the tools, its just up to him to make this a great year for BA. That's all I can help you out with.

Be happy to. The returning players from last year (with current class and size) are:

Kyle Willis Jr. - 6'1" wing

David Holbert Jr.- 6'2" wing

Hunter Mize - Jr. 6'1" point

Darren Mustin - Sr. 6'2" wing

Pete Compton - Sr.6'6" post

King Dunlap - Sr. 6'8" post

Barry Turner - So. 6'3" post/wing

Mason Revellete - So. 5'8" point

Brian Ralls - So. 6'4" post/wing

Scottie Reall - Jr. 6'1" wing

Tyler Griffin - So. 6'0" wing

Compton, Reall, Mize, Holbert and Willis were the "starters" last year. Top newcomers this year will be the aforementioned Brandon, and Chris Slay, a 6"0" sophomore wing player (Ron's little bro).

I have heard that Compton may not play this season, due to a nagging shoulder injury. He loves baseball, is a good pitcher, and does not want to jeopardize that. He is also a long snapper that is getting college interest. We'll see. I've also heard that Mize may not play. Again, we'll see.

BA has a lot of good athletes they can run in and out, and they are much physically stronger than last year. The tale will be told for this team at the point guard position. It was not a strength last year, and nobody has really stepped up yet. Holbert and Reall need to step up their scoring, as BA struggled to get points out of the set offense last season. Turner has gotten stronger, and was looking very good at the end of last season. In addition, Brandon will need to put on some muscle fast if he is to contribute significantly at post. He's going to get beat up underneath in practice, and should mature quickly. He is very talented.

You may know that John Pierce, ex FRA and Lipscomb university great is one of the assistant coaches, and has really helped the post players.

They may start off slowly, as all of these players are also on the football team, with the exception of Peoples and Mize.

Looking forward to an exciting DII year.

BTW, GOMAB, I haven't been looking at this board too long...where do you get your seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of HS hoops? I really enjoy your takes.

Is the same guy coaching that was there when David Harrison was a freshman back in 1999 or have they had a coaching change..If my memory serves me right the guy back then was really young. Someone let me know? Thanks TNBBALL!

Nooooooo!!!! Coach Butler decide to pursue other interests, and legendary Tennessee HS coach Gearge Pitts is starting his second year at BA.

Tyler Smith: 6'6 WF Soph, Giles Co. AAU with the prestigious Southeast Pump 'n Run (AL) out of Huntsville. This is an Adidas club featuring Jackie Butler, Rashard Case, Shay Shannon, and Mike Williams. Smith had 33 points last year vs Columbia (8 threes) and 40 points vs Marshall Co.......

Itzme........thanks a ton for the info on Brentwood Academy's team this year. I may look to you for more BA info as the season progresses. Do you play for BA??? Anyways, thanks again......

As for me, I simply love the game of basketball. I coach AAU (Midstate Ballerz) and hope to get into the College Coaching ranks soon. I love the recruiting game, and have tried to learn from those who know a heck of a lot more than I do. Thanks for the interest.........

    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
