What in the World Happened at Lawrence County?

CHS 2007

Obviously, I've been out of the HS loop for some time now. But my sisters just got back from the Centennial at Lawrence County game. And they described a stretch of the game that...if true...is pretty disgusting. And I'm wondering if anybody on here was at the game to witness what happened.

This is what I WAS TOLD...

From what I heard, both teams were very chippy (some would say cheap) at the start. Well at some point, CHS's TJ Leach was carrying with the ball, when a Lawrence county defender grabbed him by the facemask, pulled his head all the way back, and then slammed onto TJ's back. Apparently TJ was badly hurt, and an ambulance was called onto the field.

Well apparently next, TJ's dad ran onto the field to check on his son. But before he could get to his son, the police ran after him, tackled him, and escorted him out of the stadium...WHILE HIS SON WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND SERIOUSLY INJURED. The CHS Coaches protested, but were apparently threatened with ejection as well. Well naturally, this didn't sit well with the fans, and they protested as well. Well all of Centennial's fans were then asked to leave the game...all while their friend, their teammate, their classmate...lay seriously injured on the field.

That was the version I got. Can anyone shed light on this? If this is true...that police force needs to be put under investigation. That just makes me sick.

very untrue, the kid made a legal tackle on the leach boy who got hurt.. He wrapped up from behind and had an arm around the neck, there was no facemask.. From what I saw CHS got feisty as the game progressed which excited LCHS.. It's football, people are gonna get hurt and people are gonna jaw back and forth. That's just how it goes.. but I will tell you students from CHS displayed very poor sportsmanship. They came on the field right off the track and started screaming at and flipping off the LCHS players as they made a goal line stand against CHS late in the game.. It was a very poor sight to witness. Those students should be diciplined by the CHS administration. And as for the cop and the parent, from what I saw the coaches and trainers where tending to the injured leach boy on the field when fans on the CHS side stood up and started screaming and the cop ran over there along with the principal to see what was happening and no he did not tackle the parent.. That is completely untrue. As far as the leach kid I hope he is okay and not seriously injured. It is always scary to see a young boy carted off the field.. At the end of the night the wildcats came away with a big win despite the lack of sportsmanship displayed by the CHS students

There was a fight in the Centennial stands.I don't know who it was,but they were wearing navy blue and gray;not purple and gold.Law enforcement investigated but left the tackling to the Wildcats. There was nothing illegal or malicious about the injury to the cougar player. It's just Football.I hope he's O.K. LCHS officials took every precaution with the players safety.I don't know about Centennial cheerleaders alleged behavior.I didn't see it.The game did get chippy, but the referees handled it.

Does anyone know how Leach is doing? What type of injury?

talked to the officer myself, he said the fan came on the playing surface and was cussing out the refs about the alleged facemask(which was very very legal) and the refs called the sro officer out there they then escorted him out. what you have on your hands is a very twisted story. the students on the track taunting the lchs team needs to be punnished, that is rediculous behavior that looks bad on not only them but the whole high school, that either needs to be some sort of suspension or something alone. also, chs was probably one of the most cheap teams ive ever seen, they had it seemed like a dirty hit on a lchs player every play. poor sportsmanship out of chs, very disappointing. on the good side, great win for lawrence county love how they get after it

Your information is very wrong. it sounds like whoever told you the story was still angry from the beatdown the Wildcats put on the cougars. Centennial showed poor sportsmanship, class, and discipline. Those issues were the root of all the happenings that occurred at Lawrence county.

I am not a regular poster on Coach T but I could no longer let the lies and cheap shots about Centennial continue to go unaddressed.

I am a Centennial parent who was sitting in the visitor's bleachers in Lawrenceburg on Friday night with a front row view of the "situation".  To set the record straight, there was no fight nor were there Centennial students harrassing Lawrence County players.

The "fight" you are referring to was actually a Lawrenceburg law enforcement officer physically  attacking a family friend of the injured Centennial player.     The Officer attempted to tackle this man as he was going to help with the injured player (at the request of the player's father.)  It was a scary situation especially when the officer placed his hand on his gun in front of the Centennial students and fans as if he was going to fire it.  Many of the students were literally shaking after observing such brutal behavior toward this Centennial fan.    Yes, the man was yelling at the refs during the night but the response by the Police Officer was totally out of line.

Regarding the Centennial students.   The students on the track were Centennial's Spirit Squad, a Centennial tradition who are part of every game.  The majority of the Spirit Squad members are Honor Students.  In fact, one of the Spirit Squad members is a National Merit semifinalist!  The Spirit Squad was on the track the whole game (like they are for all games) cheering on the Cougars when late in the third quarter a Lawrence County coach or school official decided to complain about their presence on the track.  In my opinion, it was a ploy by the Lawrence County coaches to stop Centennial's momentum as CHS was at the goal line getting ready to score.  In fact, the Police Officer was very apologetic to the Spirit Squad sponsor and told her the students were not misbehaving, they just did not belong on the track.  Hopefully,  this will end the lies and false accusations on this thread directed toward the Centennial students.

As to the game itself,  both teams were very "chippy" which In my opinion can be attributed in part to poor officiating.  I don't believe the officials ever had control of the game which eventually resulted in flagrant behavior by both teams including the horse collar, helmet twisting tackle that caused the neck injury to the Centennial QB.  After the injury, the officials attempted to get control of the game by calling more penalties including unsportsmanlike on both teams but as we all know, once the horse is out of the barn, it's too late to shut the barn door.

These are the facts as I observed them first hand so please stop the false accusations and disparaging remarks directed toward Centennial.  It is an outstanding school with wonderful students as I'm sure LCHS is too.

I am sure both schools are good schools and both have wonderful students but I was also at the game and for the most part your story is correct. The LCHS coaches nor administrator were the ones asking for the spirit squad to be removed from the track. It was no ploy to gain momentum by anyone from LCHS. In fact it was the referee. He stopped play and asked for them to be removed because they were indeed causing some problems. I am not going as far as saying they were doing anything way out of line but for a ref to ask to have them removed something must have been going on. It didn't appear to me that LCHS needed any more momentum than they already had anyways! There were some cheap shots but mostly by the Centennial players. If you don't believe that then look at the personal fouls called on each team. The tackle was not malicious that injured the Centennial player. I did get a good look at that play and it was just football. I was glad to hear the player is OK. The guy in the stand had no business on the field after his actions in the stands! The way he was yelling he may have well started something on the field with the refs. If you want to come on the field then act right in the stands. The father of the player was a class act and was very nice. I also heard Centennial fans as they were leaving running their mouths and saying some pretty crude things. I do hate things got out of hand but I dind't see anything but good hard hitting and that is football!

REALLY Nohurry,REALLY? Are you really saying that the LCHS sro reached for his gun??? REALLY? Of all the ridiculous things that I have ever heard, this takes the cake. Unbelievable!! And yes, Centennial was the cheaper and less disciplined of the two teams last Friday night. Hands Down, end of story.
