10AA

I haven't seen anything on District 10AA this year. I know that CPA has a new coach (Legate?) and her daughter transfered with her from Davidson Academy. I think she was all district. That should give CPA a replacement for graduated all district Anna Mitchell. Is CPA the favorite this year? What about Lipscomb, Hume-Fogg, East Literature and MLK or others? Who is coming back and who do we need to watch out for?

CPA should still be the favorite despite the losses of Mitchell and Thurley. They will have balanced guard play with sophomore sharpshooter Meredith Roman and do-it-all junior wing Emily Boyd. Inside play should be solid with the sophomore tandem of 6-1 Lauren Thompson, who showed great improvement over the summer with her club team, and 5-11 Faith LeGate, who is the coach's daughter. Throw into the mix a pretty deep bench with numerous players that can give quality minutes and CPA should be the favorite for the District 10AA title.

Obviously you can never count out Lipscomb, as you know they will have quality guard play. East Lit should be down after graduating Cowan and that large senior class. Hume-Fogg, MLK, and Pearl-Cohn should all be solid, but I don't know if they have enough to take down CPA. Regardless, it should be an interesting year in 10AA.

I saw Lauren Thompson play in the state tournament in Murfreesboro. Gibson County (best team in AA last year by far) had a hard time with her. She has developed the 8-10 foot jumper very effectively and if she continues to improve - look out.

I don't know anything about CPA's new coach. What does she like to do on offense and defense?

Lipscomb will have solid guard play if they're playing a team that doesn't press and that doesn't put much pressure on the ball. Otherwise, Lipscomb has always been sketch as far as ball security goes. A lot of their better players over the years have been forwards and post players, or athletic girls who might play on the wing but aren't primary ball-handlers. Lipscomb lost a ton from last year's team. It will be a major rebuilding project. Ernie will have them working hard though. Good luck to Lipscomb.

I think Lipscomb may surprise some people this year. It's true that they graduated 5 seniors - 4 who pretty much started every game - but this years starters got good playing time last year and are playing well together.

There are no seniors on the team so they will be young. They start 4 juniors and a sophomore. Look for balanced scoring - maybe a different points leader every game. If they keep everyone healthy - something that has been a problem the past few years - they could challenge CPA for the District crown.

District 10AA play starts Tuesday night with:

CPA at Pearl-Cohn

Whites Creek at Lipscomb

Maplewood at Stratford

Hume Fogg at MLK

East Lit at White House in a non-district game

CPA over PC

Lipscomb over Whites Creek

Maplewood over Stratford

East Lit. over White House

No surprises there. But MLK over Hume Fogg, and by a pretty good margin (if I remember the box score right). What's up there? Is Hume Fogg down? Is MLK up? I haven't seen either team play but that has to be the surprise of the week.

Anyone have any insight?

I think CPA was the best team we played in the tournament. Even over McMinn Central despite us only beating them by 3. I can't remember which player Thompson was, but CPA had a very big and tough team last year. That was one of the very few teams that matched Gibson Co.'s physical play and we did have problems with it.

WOW that says a lot coming from GCPioneer.

Thompson was the tallest (6'3"?) on the team. As a freshman last year she was probably the first sub off the bench. It seemed to me that she was one of a few not intimidated by GC (which was extreamly difficult give how good GC was).

CPA is still a young team with 3 sophomores starting (Thompson, Roman, and LeGate) and a junior (Boyd). (I am not sure what class the fifth starter is.) It will be interesting to see how they mature toward the end of the year.

Trust me coach, I'm not the only one from gibson that said it. People look at the mcminn game and say but it was a three point game. Well, we played our worst half of basketball, beside the obion game in regular season, that we played all year in that game. Given the fact that we played well against cpa, they played an extremely good game theirselves despite the score. Cpa matched our physical play and didn't back down one bit. You guys had a tough team last year and should be tough this year. Good luck!

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
