Great post! Yes, folks Alcoa is growing the next generation of State Champions! The Midget team is loaded as well. Many great years to come. I got to watch a few minutes of the game as my team (Raiders) warmed up for our game against the Rebs. Very impressed! Great job Shannon and staff! Roll F5 Roll!

Hey Scots50 -

You guys (Raiders) played a great game on Saturday. We just moved here from Milan and my son played on the Rebs this fall. He was not a happy guy after the double OT loss to you all, but I must say that the game could have easily been 21-0 in regulation. You guys moved the ball well and just outplayed our team. Congrats on the victory! Even in defeat, I love watching the boys play.

Welcome to the Blount County football family! I appreciate your kind words. I have been coaching youth league OL now 28 years and it just gets better and better, win or lose. The real reward is watching your former players on Friday night. The Raiders represent all schools in Blount Co. so I can usually attend any Friday Night game and see someone special to me play.

It was unfortunate that someone had to lose Saturday. We certainly did our part to lose! The Rebs, as usual, are a very good football team; great talent and well coached. To win this game was a great honor for our boys.

Again, welcome to Maryville and Alcoa!

    • I grew up watching Greene Devil Football since I could walk and still close with a lot of the coaches so should know my history pretty well lol.  Everything worked out the way it should have but firmly believe McCurry would have won some State Title if he wouldn't been let go (Greeneville still runs the same D he brought here and he let Ballard run the O and stayed out of it when it came to calling plays.  Greeneville was put out in the Semi's McCurry's last year against Maryville and the next year Greeneville stayed in 4a and was State Runner up playing were they were placed for the first time by the TSSAA.). It was definitely a McCurry and Ballard show that turned everything around along with the Community buying in and revamping the weight room and field house. Since Ballard got promoted to HC every Coach after him has been within the Greeneville Coaching staff because your right, they know what it takes to win a state championship.  Ballard was a master mine on O and what i think Greeneville has lacked since he left and let some Championships or making it to the Championship slip away over the last few years
    • Sounds like you know your area history well. Going back and looking the records were better than I thought but mostly still beating Upper East TN schools. Ballard sounds like he came/was promoted at the right time.    I do think it’s no coincidence that them keeping the HCs as guys who were former guys on the staff. Too many times schools want a “state championship” leveled coach from the outside but they don’t know the landscape. Promoting from within will help with less turnover and keep the program consistent.
    • You’re a fool if you think I have more than one account
    • Looking back they had better records than I recalled against upper East TN.  But they still took off once ballard got there. And beating other good programs
