Who will be QB?

IT is Bradley Stephens job to loose right now. He made big improvements this spring. He has learned the offense and has the best arm . I still feel the staff needs to use all its weapons on offense. There is talented recievers and runners that were proven in freshmen and jv games. I know we cannot make statements of how good the offensive players are based on last year , but really the new offense was not fully used the entire year.

Bradley will be a big key to their success. He does not roll out . He is a true pocket passer that can run if he has to.

If owls couldn't do with Goose, they aren't gonna do it with anybody else,he rolled out on purpose on a few plays, most of the time,he was running for his life!! Same o-line,same problems,he constantly hit recvrs in the hands and they constantly dropped everything.Bradley is no where the athlete,he was....there is no Randall Freeman to hand off to,so if Bradley is the key to owls sucess, then the owls will be sitting home again playoff time.Bradley isn't ready to lead.Owls defense will determine owls success!! But if williams can get the o-line going and find a running back that's worthy, then owls could use whoever at qb,this all sounds harsh, but its not meant to be.If owls would use the freshman teams philosphy:Run,run, run and play great defense, owls would be better off. Those coaches are very good it seems.

I do think they will be better this year.

Agree totally on the o-line. They have to make big improvements run and pass blocking. They all have gotten bigger and stronger from the fall ,but that is only half of their problem. The roll out blocking was very difficult to do when the defense knows the qb is going to roll out and never drop straight back.

The RBs right now are Desmond Pittman and T.J. Davis. Jay Rudwall and T.J. Warren share fullback position.

Bradley has to step up his game know doubt, but if he does the Owls will be able to throw deep and open up the entire offense.

Deleted my earlier post...nobody responded,so I'm assuming no one thought it is was worthy? :roflol:

It was a good post. It once again proves that talent without a clear direction and game plan will not bring victories. All areas of the team must step up and work harder for the Owls to win.

O- Line , Qb, backs/ Recievers . Kicking game has got to improve .

This team has a good balance in most areas and will have many seniors to provide leadership.

The staff has got to utilize the entire team. Everyone needs to feel they have a role and is important to the team. I know this is all team coaching 101 , but as your examples said it takes all eleven on the field doing their job.

Owl fortunes are looking up, in spite of sloppy spring game. Bradley Stephens will have two great receivers in TJ Warren and Michael Creach. He will also have the always reliable and steady Drew Manning in the slot.

I also hear that Drew might be the qb. Those are three college prospects right there not to mention the fb/mlb. The schedule will be much easier. It wouldn't shock me to see the Owls be unbeaten headed into the playoffs. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait......to see you,buddy!!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
