Anyone seen anything from DeKalb?

Recommended Posts

I don't know what to expect this year. 08-09 was great, but last year was not that good. I have a bad feeling about this season, but I have heard the team has a lot more players than usual, and that a lot of new players have joined the team that aren't too bad. Anyone seen anything or know anything about a number of players?

I see on their web site it says they went 8-0 at Cookeville 7 on 7 competition. Does anyone have any information on this? I would just like to know how they are looking because this is the first year I'm not very familiar with alot of the players.

Your team picked up Don Berninger as Defensive Coordinator. nuff said. :)

They will do a lot better than last year.

Don Berninger is a pretty good coach. I had never seen him until tonight, but he is really interactive with the players on the sideline. Just liked what I saw out of him. As for the game, we got beat with a deep pass at the beginning and let two quick scores go, but we stuck the run pretty good and after awhile the offense got rolling. Some pretty long drives established. It looked pretty good once some kinks were worked out. A couple speedy receivers and ALOT better tackling than last year. I saw some really hard hits and good blocks. One block knocked a player out of his helmet and laid him out for a few seconds. It might've been taken too far but I can tell the blocking will be better this season. Only fault I see is when the QB has guys open down the field his arm strength beyond a certain point seems to not be so good. He passes great, but then when they run a longer route it always comes up short or makes them run back to the ball. DC had 2 or 3 forced fumbles and recoveries when I left and Gville had an interception. I think the score was something like 4 TD's Gville and 3 TD's DC when I left. Not sure. I stayed until around 8 then the younger players started getting some time and I left.

The starters were 4-2 Gville.

The youngers guys were 2-0 Gville.

Gville started out strong 3-0, but I think there offense was pretty vanilla. When the starters were in, I think we had about 4 backfield combinations, and we had about a dozen players going in and out with the starters. We had a couple of good runs, and the passing game was more effective than I thought it would be. Mostly on offense, though, they just ran the basic plays with a lot of players to see who could do what.

On defense, after the first few possessions, Dekalb found their passing game. We need to definitely shore up the pass defense. We stopped their run, however, they had some long runs when the defense lost containment on some pass plays when the QB reversed his field.

Overall, we lost a couple of fumbles, our pass defense needs work, and we wasn't too physical, but we grinded out the running game, and the passing game was effective, and we stopped the run and got pressure on the QB.

In the end, it was a good scrimmage for both teams.

Plus, that new Defensive Coordinator has a quality that Dekalb has been missing for a long time.

He sure is feisty.
