1. Columbia Central- Defending state champs. Still talented and fast. Will pirch the tower until someone knocks them off.

2. Memphis Ridgeway- 13-1 semifinalist last season. Probably the most talented team in 5A. Tons of athletes and speed all over the field on both sides.

3. Powell- Very talented. I don't know much about them, but I've heard they will be right in the thick of things.

4. Henry County- Returns 17 starters from last year's 10-2 squad. Big, fast, talented and deep. A handfull of division 1 prospects including SEC recruit Andrew Jelks.

There will be other teams who make noise as well.

This...Powell looked the real deal dismantling Sullivan South in a scrimmage last week. They spent much of last year at #1 with a junior dominated team and should play out the year with a chip on their shoulder. These 4 in the semi-finals with Powell over Ridgeway at Cookeville.

Didn't quite get that feeling from Powell, Crawdad. South was down 20-14 and moving the ball until we threw into triple coverage...int for TD. Powell defense needs work if they are to challenge for state because the South offense has sputtered a little so far.

Good luck to all!

Columbia or Powell wins it all. West, catholic or Anderson County dont have a shot. Not this year anyway.

HOOK EM' HORNS MAYBE NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!

I believe West would handle Powell myself. Powell is about the same as last year; just more experience. If anyone comes out of the Knoxville area, it will be West. BTW West lost to Columbia 7-0 last year, and Columbia lost quite a bit from what I understand.

Columbia did lost a lot but they lost more the year before and returned to the State title and won. They have gotten really lucky with Transfers such as Colton Belew. The former Giles County ATH is 6-2 180 and can play virtually anywere on offense. His Cousin and HC's son Eric Belew is returning and committed to Memphis. Probably the best all around ATH in the state. The line was questionable but looked really good in the Jamboree and actually has a good amount of size after losing two 300 pounders last year. I'd like to see West and the Lions have a rematch in the post season! What a game that would be.

We know just how explosive Powell's offense will be, but the big question mark for Powell will be on defense. They only lost 3 defensive starters, but 2 of those were their star DEs. What really made the difference for the Panthers last year was the great play of their defensive line. If they are going to make a playoff run, they'll have to get good d-line play again. Powell had a handful of defensive starters sit out during the jamboree on Thursday (due to injuries), so hopefully injuries won't derail their chances.

    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
    • during the 2nd round of the playoffs last year against Milan, Gray partially tore his meniscus. He had a minor repair around Thanksgiving. Recovery time was minimal and he has been full force for baseball this season.
    • What do ya’ll think the O/U will be? I would set the line at 2.5
    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
