Why does a team play up or down to the level of competition? <_<

This is a great question. One that I have also pondered over the years and I don't understand why a team would play down to the level of competition either. However I have a theory. The "Great" teams I have watched over the years don't play down. They have a swagger about them (not cocky, there is a difference) and they want to bury a team early. It is like they feel embarrassed if an inferior team is hanging around and they play even harder. I guess the "Great" teams always have players that respect their competition but hate to lose. These type of players hate to lose at anything from basketball to checkers and they don't care who they are playing, they play to win. It all comes down to attitude. You have to always respect your competition and have that refuse to lose attitude.

Earlier in the year I thought Cloudland and Unaka were the teams to beat, after watching NG last night and doing a little homework, this is looking more like a crap shoot. The regular season don't mean nothing anyway,it'll just come down to who wins at the right time.Looks like any of the teams could beat the others on any given night. Should be a heck of a fun year.

I said it from the get go.Just had a feeling it would be a tight year. Losing all the sr.s that Cloudland and Hampton lost, I kinda thought we both would be a little inconsistant to start out. I also knew we both have talent, just short on experience.

2-0 in conf. Great job Landers. We fought our tails off all night. Tuff loss Rangers, Thought you all played a heck of a game. Good to have Devin back, He's our fireplug. If you couldn't get fired up playin beside him you probably don't have a pulse. Again, great Job Landers but now time to get back at it cause from here on out is when it counts!

Hampton and NG are playing, not sure about the other. Hampton will have their hands full. Both of um.

Yep,they sure will. Every night in conf play this year is a potential loss for every team in this dist. One bad night is all it'll take( and maybe on a not so bad night) I think this is the most balance we've seen in a long time.

Parity at its best. Either show up or take a whipping.Makes it alot of fun and they should all be battle tested come tournament time.

That's the weird thing with basketball though, A team COULD lose every district game in the regular season and win out come turney time and make it to regionals,sub-state, or even state. So i guess it really don't matter what you do in-season.(besides seeding in dist/regional turneys.)

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
