ETSU Softball Signs Five For 2012-13

Johnson City, Tenn. (Nov. 16, 2011)-The ETSU softball team has announced the signing of five student-athletes for the 2012-13 season, according to head Buccaneer softball coach Brad Irwin on Wednesday.

 

Madison Boyd (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Sam Carpenter (Forest City, N.C.), Bethany Cowart (Ringgold, Ga.), Emilie Hensley (Morristown, Tenn.), and Katy Jordan (Loganville, Ga.) have all signed their national letter of intent to play softball for the Blue and Gold starting next fall.

 

"We are really proud of this class," said Irwin. "We think this class will be a major step in building our program. This class meets many of our needs, which includes pitching and power. We can hardly wait to get these young ladies on campus. The four high school players in this signing class also played for a high level travel ball team."

Forrest’s Jordan signs with Campbellsville University

On Tuesday at Forrest, Lady Rocket senior center fielder and District 9A Most Valuable Player Adrean Jordan signed a letter of intent to attend Campbellsville University in Kentucky on a softball scholarship.

 

Jordan, who also played 18U travel ball with the Louisville Sluggers’ top team over the summer, batted .444 with 5 home runs, 39 RBIs, and 30 runs scored as she played in all 30 games for the Lady Rockets last season.

MTSU Softball signs seven for 2013

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee softball head coach Sue Nevar has announced the signing of seven players in the 2011 fall signing period.

 

Tessa Bond, Katie Brown, Lindsey Fenner, Juli Layne, LaRi Mitchell, Chrissy Polka and Ashley Stassin all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Blue Raiders in 2013.

 

Nevar and the Blue Raider staff addressed all areas of the diamond in this class, signing three outfielders, three infielders and a pitcher. Several of the signees play multiple positions which will provide Middle Tennessee with flexibility for years to come.

Five Committed for Lady Bisons 2013 Softball Class

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb University softball team has picked up five commitments for the 2013 season, head coach Kristin Ryman announced Thursday.

 

Three signees were in-state recruits. Outfielders Heather Montgomery (Hendersonville, Tenn./Beech HS) and Brittany Elmore (Mt. Juliet, Tenn./Goodpasture Christian School) are top-of-the-order talents who can get on and steal bases for the Lady Bisons.

 

The third Tennessee athlete is pitcher Tanner Sanders. A Flintville native, Tanner has been a three-time All-District 8-AAA pitcher and was District Pitcher of the Year in 2010 for Lincoln County High School

Henderson's Weeks signs with Lady Lion softball

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team opened its 2012-13 recruiting class with the signing of Jessica Weeks of Henderson, Tenn.

 

Weeks, a catcher and outfielder, is a senior at Chester Co. HS where, as a junior, she hit .427 with 51 hits, 38 runs scored, 29 RBI and 21 stolen bases. She is a two-time all-district selection and was named to the Jackson Sun All West Tennessee First Team in 2011. She has started for the Eaglettes since her freshman season.

Howell Joins Lady Flames Softball

With the 2011 season fast approaching, Lee softball coach Emily Russell is already boosting her 2012 roster with the signing of Chelsea Howell, a catcher for coach Terry Floyd and the Coffee County Central High School Lady Raiders.

 

 

 

Howell, the daughter of Steve Howell and Cindi Jernigan, is in the midst of her senior year, following an outstanding junior season which produced District 6-AAA Defensive MVP honors, as well as All-District and Second Team All-Mid State honors. She also hit .438 with three home runs and 15 doubles.

Local prep standout Courtney Brower (Rossview HS) heads the trio of incoming backstops, along with Abbie Cline (Sawyerville, Ill./Gillespie HS) and Melanie (Mel) Pavel (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek HS). They will be joined by pitcher/middle infielder Abby Guest (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) and third baseman Niya Sparks (Lexington, Tenn./Lexington HS).

Alcoa’s Byrd signs with Montreat

Alcoa softball player Mishayla Byrd will continue her academic and athletic career at Montreat College. Byrd signed to play softball at the school last week during a ceremony at Alcoa High. The Lady Tornado hit .426 last season, with a slugging percentage of .519 and an on-base percentage of .444. She recorded 28 RBIs and had a field percentage of .968.

 

 

Alcoa’s Cooper signs with Union

Alcoa High School’s Erin Cooper has signed to continue her softball career and become a student at Union College. With her mother Debbie at her side, Cooper signed the papers on Tuesday at the high school.

 

Last season, the Lady Tornado hit for a .416 average, with a .688 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .440. She drove in 34 runs, including four home runs. Her fielding perentage was .987.
