Oneida at Hampton

Just a thought but how much did conditioning hurt Hampton? They hadn't played a four-quarter game all season and that had to benefit Oneida late in the third and in the fourth quarter.

I remember two years ago when Rockwood upset Oneida at Oneida in the second round that Oneida had blown out everybody for the most part all season and Rockwood knew if they were close in the fourth quarter that the Indians wouldn't be able to finish. Rockwood trailed in the fourth quarter, but Oneida was gassed and Rockwood won.

Not trying to stir anything up, but sometimes having a great team can hurt you in the long run. You can condition all you want in practice, but there's nothing like having to dig down deep at the end of a game to get better.

In honor of Pujo....I think the Hampton boys pulled the wagon from start to finish. You know when you get tired thats when you start seeing fumbles and things like that, but i don't thing there was one in the second half by Hampton. The interception came on a tipped ball, so again it didn't appear to be an issue of fatigue. Hampton is a mirror image of Oneida....except their running backs are a little bigger. They each hammered the other all night long. Also a big factor was the cold. It effectively took the Indian's kicking game down several rungs. Manning has been making 42 yarders all year and he never had any warm air to work with last night. Even on the sidelines he looked particularly "stiff".

As usual two things happen at this time of year:

1--Hampton's season is done, because they finally played a team with a pulse.

and

2--Pujo goes into hiding.

#1 usually has a lot to do with #2

They were very similar!

Cold did hurt both kicking games.

I wonder how idiots say Hampton is so weak when we play an Oneida team to the wire and may have won on a great drive if not for the tipped pass and interception....and teams such as Oneida play a much stronger schedule (as some say)??!!! Oh well, maybe next time.

Best of luck

If Mike came back to Cloudland, I would see to it personally that he would be well-taken care of and all the cancers from RM would be removed. We have suffered enough. Sorry my good friends, but we want him back. :|

We want someone that cares about the kids and the school. We want someone that's going to stay and not run when all the talent graduates. That's real like it or not.

Nah. I won't be going into hiding, I pretty much post year around. As far as I'm concerned, theres no shame in losing a ballgame. The only people who don't incounter failure are the one's who don't do anything. It was just a heck of a football game between to fine teams. One of them had to lose. Both teams played to their strengths and never went away from it,thats what good teams do. I'd also agree with what one one the Oneida people said about Oneida not being used to this type of game, like they said ,most of the teams they play uses the spread. Hampton ran hard and if you just looked at the stats, you'd think they won. But Hamptons demise, was very costly penalties at very unopertune times. The 5 personal fouls in the second half was simply a lack of didapline. The refs came to Hamptons sidelines and warned the coach,he went into the huddle and told the kids what was going to happen,it didn't take. Alot of fans and even the kids claimed Oneida was taking some cheap shots, can;t say I wittnessed any of it and even if true, you just can't retaliate and cost you're team. Away to much blood, sweat and tears shed over the year, and for several kids 4 years,to just pitch a fit and cost the whole program. We had these issues at the 1st of the year and they have been addressed all season long ,but a few kids just couldn't control their emotions. Its a shame for the others. There is away too much hard work put in by so many people for a few to mess up.

Both teams had some great kids who put on a show,Oneida earned the win and I'll be pulling for um until they go down.As far as I can tell,Hampton and Oneida is pretty much like looking in a mirror. Congrats and keep a rolling.

Talent was quite abundant the year he left, the JV's destroyed everyone. Several of um quit and even quit school. But even with the one's that stayed, they won 9 games their senior year under Coach Keith. Also took Coalfield to the bitter end in the 2ond round of the playoffs. If Jonah Horney hadn't got hurt in that game,I'm sure they would have won that one too.It don't look to me like Cloudland is too crazy about keeping coaches.

I wonder when the talent is gonna run out at Hampton.I'll tell you when,It'll be about the same time he quits coaching.Sour grapes is fine ,but at some point you have to look at reality and see whats really happening.Thats real ,like it or not. If any of this can be disputed I'm happy to hear your statistics. Until then I'll just stand pat. Reckon Robbie and Keith didn't like the kids or the school either. Wonder why they left.

I personally think that when the new scheduling for the season starts, we should include Oneida in it if its in the cards. What a rivalry that would be. We did it back awhile ago and each game was hardnosed and close. I think, even if we seen eachother in the playoffs, it would benefit both teams, especially Hampton. Dont know what you fellers think, but that is the way you build a quality team. Play hardnosed football against a formidable opponent. That is how you get better. Dont care how far away we are from each other, we are the same in alot a ways...

Only advantage to our schedule now is the closeness of other teams. Some may say "ease" is the advantage but Johnson Co, Cloudland, HV aren't cupcakes most years.

I would love to mix it up yearly with a Oneida type team. Biggest problem I see is our fans not much on traveling...of crse Oneida's stands weren't packed last night either

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
