Waverly defeats Montgomery Central tonight 56-43 in what was a better game than what the final score indicated. Montgomery Central led this game, at one point, by a score of 31-22 in the third quarter but Waverly ended the contest on a 34-12 run. Austin Mullinax (who was in foul trouble in the first half) proved to be the difference in the second half Tigers run. The Indians made this a tougher game than many expected (on their home floor).

Next Up: Stewart County vs Harpeth TOMORROW NIGHT

Harpeth is 14-12 (7-5 in District 11-AA) :thumb:

Harpeth is 0-2 against Cheatham County

Harpeth is 1-1 against Waverly, Camden, and Creek Wood

Harpeth is 1-1 against Dickson County, Smyrna, and Sycamore

Harpeth is 0-1 against Overton, Station Camp, Greenbrier, and David Lipscomb

That makes Harpeth a combined 6-12 against the "decent" teams on their schedule :roflol:

Harpeth's other 8 wins came against:

Stewart County (twice): 6-22

Montgomery Central (twice): 5-20

Springfield: 3-18

Cascade: 12-12 in Class A (Cheatham beat them by 30 over Christmas Break)

Whites Creek: 5-20

Hickman County: 3-26

IN OTHER WORDS..........

Harpeth has taken advantage of a "watered down" portion of their schedule and has proven that they are actually a PRETENDER (not a CONTENDER) against the "decent" teams on their schedule. The numbers do not lie!

I have to agree, I'm a Camden fan but they look alot like Harpeth. They have only three quality win this year, Creekwood, Harpeth and Riverside. All the other wins were from horrible teams to give them a record of 18-7 and 6-6 in the district. I would love to see them play a schedule like Waverly who plays a really tough non district schedule, but when its time for districts to start they are battle tested. I dont care what your non district record is, if you go out in the first round of the districts every year your season is a failure.

Hey naswatch:

I believe Cheatham County benefited from a strong schedule this year. They played Ravenwood, Kenwood (twice), Rossview, Greenbrier (twice), White House (twice), Watertown, DeKalb County, Harpeth (twice), Camden (twice), Creek Wood (twice), and Waverly (twice).

The other games were against Houston County (twice), Stewart County (twice), Montgomery Central (twice), Portland, Clarksville-Northwest, Page, and Cascade.

18 of the Cubs 28 games were against what I would call "decent" competition or better :thumb:

I dont think he is criticizing Cheatham's schedule, but Waverly played Beech, Lake County, Giles County, Perry County twice,Dickson County twice, a strong team from Georgia, and of course the district. I agree that Cheatham played a good schedule as well. Last nights Waverly-Montgomery Central score doesn't surprise me, MC gave Waverly close games in the regular season too. It was always a heated match up.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
