I have never heard of this ruling and I have been near their district for years. The TSSAA tournament brackets have listed district winner and district runner-up advancing. Also the TSSAA Handbook makes no such mention of this type of "special treatment". It seems to me if this was true then Brentwood would have been excluded from even playing in the district tournament. I would love a proper explanation if this indeed comes to pass.

II. DISTRICT AND REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS

A. All tournament play shall be single elimination in Division I and Division II.

B. In Division I, tournament play shall begin at the district level if both districts in the region have three or more

teams. If not, tournament play shall begin at the region level with a tournament for all schools in the region.

C. In Division I district play, the district winner and runner-up teams shall advance to the regional tournament.

Since each district sends two teams to the regional tournament, the Board of Control has approved a set

bracket for tournament play as shown below:

I am with you. I have never heard of this before either. I guess we will find out soon. My first thought was the paper must be wrong, but the specificity to the quote makes me think otherwise.

Per TSSAA, each district is allowed to determine the number 1 & 2 seeds however they see fit as a district. It seems that district 11 has decided to give the regular season champs a bid in the region semis.

 

11AAA voted last year to change the bi-laws of our District.

 

1st seed in the regular season (this year Brentwood) gets an automatic bid into the region.

 

If the 1st seed doesn't make it to the District Finals (which has now happened) they will still advance to Region, but they will be the #2 seed.

 

Winner of the District Tournament will be the #1.

 

So now Indy and Ravenwood have to battle for 1 remaining spot in tonight's game.

This obviously makes the regular season more valuable. What a brilliant way to reward the regular season champion!

Which now leads us to the chicken vs. egg argument...

 

Is the team with the most goals in the District 12 Championship Game, the winner or the loser? It's a shame that these teams do not benefit from an upset of this magnitude. In fact, they are worse off. Now they will face potentially the best team in the state...with extra rest!

 

Not that District 12 can beat District 11 (this year, especially with Overton out), but now they have very little chance. And, my sense is, several other districts may now look to change their by-laws too.

I agree.

 

Look at Maryville against Catholic last night. Most people thought it was a "given" that Catholic would advance (outside of Maryville fans, of course!). Any time there is a automatic bid, it takes out the "upset factor", "fatigue factor" and "injury factor" for that team.

 

And to be clear, Brentwood lost in the district tournament semis? (which is a knock out round for every other district in the state?) Using this same rule, Catholic should be advancing to the region tournament next week.

      Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.

      I know the RB from OR he’s fast and has good hands. Is good on special teams also. Didn’t want to play defense over to the Ridge.

      5star put out and article about the QB competition for Clinton like they have 9 other schools. They listed a QB that was previously on Powell’s roster last year. He was the Frosh that could throw great wearing number 5. He was not mentioned as a transfer.  HC was quoted in getting two running back transfers one being from OR that has been mentioned on these boards as well as another from TKA.  I had heard about these and more transfers. It is impressive that Clinton is able to steal away from the recruiter at Powell.  I wonder if the issue with the principal will change that or open the gates even more.
