I'm not sure if there is a mr basketball candidate caliber player on this team like there was a few years ago but McClain is definitely getting there. Top to bottom, this may be one of the best teams HHS has seen in a long long time. That being said state championship talk is a little premature. That's a tall task and a lot of things have to go your way (see the 2004 Unaka rangers). But a state tournament birth should be the goal for the dawgs this year.

Valentine may be the piece of the puzzle that puts them team ahead of the rest of the conference. Very talented athlete who can play any position. He is a great lock down defender that can shut down opposing teams best player. Can also rebound and score. Should help take some pressure off of McClain. Could be a good team this year.

Yes he will help just as long as Coach Smith keeps all his promises to him and his dad. Looks like with a team that good it will be hard. Best of luck to Hampton. Thay should go a long ways with all the recruits.

King, were you in HS when you did it? Coached a 200 lb kid last year that benched 350 and he was constantly accused of steroids due to his muscle mass. That's a lot different than 170.

No. I do get your point though. There ain't no kid in hs at 170 who could bench 350. I will never believe it unless I seez it for meself. icon_e_wink.gif

Wow! 170 pounder benching 350. With that type of talk you guys must be a lock to make state.

I forget about the basketball thread this time of year....

Ive got the video! Actually Benched 355 at 170 lbs..... Its was the summer after senior year....dont think I said it was while he was in HS...If I had had him working with Timmy during his senior year, he would have done the same...No illegal substances...Ive been in this power lifting for a long time, Timmy and Those boys at EFS know their crap...He brought it to HHS this past winter and these HS boys blistered the weight lifting comps...Its a new era folks!

A 200 pounder, with stabilizer muscles properly strengthened, proper technique understood could get more than 350 if his body make-up and attitude is right! Ive seen 160-180 lbrs embarrass (muscle bound) 225-250+ lb kids on the bench, squat rack, dead-lift, etc...

    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
    • I'm from Cloudland and we've never played a sectional game.  We need to win tomorrow night to avoid that bus ride.  Us and north greene can play with you guys so I'm expecting good games whoever the matchup is.
