Earl, every public high school in Tennessee has been talking about this and I have been told a proposal will be brought before the TSSAA Board of Control at the next meeting. Who knows what will come of this, but at least the TSSAA knows how most schools feel about the matter. I don't know what the right answer is, but I think something may happen before the Summer 2004 TSSAA meetings.

Ela...if this petition has been passed around then you undoubtedly have seen it. Could you tell us what is says? Do they list any reasons for wanting a split?

VG

In fact, since this is a board of discussion on the subject, could you start a thread "the petition" and let us know what the wording is?

The fax from the TSSAA that was sent to all schools simply stated the proposals that will be discussed at the next BOC meeting.

1. Split all public and private schools. (submitted by Collinwood High School)

I don't think any specific reasons were given. But, it said something about advantages for private schools.

2. Allow home-schooled kids to participate in athletics at there zoned school. (submitted by Scott County High School)

    • 20 but had 5-6 not dressed every game. It went down towards the end due to injuries and obviously only 15 got to dress for the state tournament. Then, they only lost 2 from this year and gain 8 from the middle school for next year
    • As somebody mentioned before, this is going to result in a massive lawsuit, can you imagine professional "educators" actually having the conversation about getting "the bad kids" out of the high school?  And the head coach asking directly to change grades, gets turned down, comes back again and gets it approved?  This is unbelievable.  In addition to the lawsuit, the state Department of Education is going to come down extremely hard on this.  WYSH is on the war path.  There could be dozens more lose their jobs by the time this is over.  And yeah the real shame is the kids being affected that literally had nothing to do with this and actually worked hard to earn their grades.
