Maybe they'll have 3 middle school state champs per weight class to increase participation. Rumor has it AAU kids will start the same thing. 3 Bantam 65 pound state champs, 3 Bantam 70 pound state champs etc. Participation is sure to go up. A no brainer.

Nope, there will be one state champ per age and weight groups. All 150+ teams competing all together as it should be.

The state tournament will be very similar. It is being held in a venue almost identical to the Ag Center in Franklin. We will have 14 mats going at once. All 5 age groups will be ran in one day as opposed to spreading it out. There will be two different sessions. With the added space and mats we are looking at several different options to spice it up. It should be a great event. The next day we will have a regional duals tournament for k-5th grade and one for middle school ages. Each region will put together an all star team and wrestle all the other regions in a round robin format.

Last years state tournament was a little messy. The venue change will be great. But, I saw lots of great wrestling and love seeing these young kids wrestling weeks past their regular season. I look forward to going again this year.
