To The Senior Football Players At Maryville High School.

Thank you for your effort and what you have accomplished for yourselves, the school and the community for the past three years. You have been an outstanding class. Going for your third straight state title, and regardless of the outcome you have had an incredible run. 35-5 so far in your varsity years and two state titles. You have worked very hard and many of you have managed to be honor students as well. You have been succesful on the field but more importantly you have given the impression that you will be successful in life and whatever your future endeavors are. You have been outstanding players but also good citizens and we are very proud of you. To the ones who played often, and the ones who play sparingly but practiced hard every day until dark. Thank You. And to all the seniors in the great state of Tennessee who are going to the playoffs or have already played their last game. Great effort! Hope you enjoyed what you will always remember as some of the best days of your life!

Thought we were getting Chattanooga Central. Either way...

Yes!!! Thank You to the Maryville Seniors! The Clinton game was the first MHS game I brought my girlfriend to and she was really impressed --- you guys didn't let me down. In fact, she wants to come to another game sometime later.

Ha ha, and that is definitely a good thing...

Anyway, this year's seniors have done a wonderful job in continuing one of the greatest traditions in the state of Tennessee in one of the toughest regions in any classification, despite going through a whole lot of adversity!!! I'm actually more proud of this group of seniors than I was of the group I played with back in '98. The achievements that the '02 seniors have accomplished have been beyond what that great '98 class could have ever dreamed of. (I know, I was one of them!)

So congratulations guys!!! Go get that third gold trophy in Murfressboro so y'all can say you had a perfect football career in high school. We'll be cheering for you all the way!!!

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
