I hear a whistle blowin', it's comin' round the bend,

Ain't read about no devil train since I don't know when,

Well we're stuck in the 3 Rivers, and now it's boom or bust,

I just saw that ole raven flying down to Pactolus.

Well I ain't no Edgar Alan and I ain't no man in black,

When that black train gets to rollin', better get off the track,

Cause it's bound for the Valley, known to us as Death

And Cyclones better be ready to be just like the rest.

yeah thats a pretty good poem. you definitely got the part right about the black and orange train gets a rollin we're gonna run you over because you will find out we are alot better than the rest!!! GO CYCLONES!!!!!!

Nice Poem, 2 corrections. 1 South isn't stuck in 3RC...they could have played UP if they chose to. Which honestly this year might have been a good year for them to do so as 5A isn't that strong this season and they would have beaten Science Hill, TN High and big DB this year. 2. Cyclone don't fear Death (Valley)..they proved it last year :)

Good points guys. I promise you the Rebels respect Coach Witten and the mighty Cyclones. It is one of South's oldest and most storied rivalries and correct me if wrong, but I believe it is just about dead even over the years.

The poem is just a little play on Folsom Prison Blues to stoke my ole bud Compusatman who used to always come up with a throwback literary play on The Raven the week of the conference's biggest game involving South. I believe he will honor this years match up with a  new version of the devil train. Let the hype begin!!!

These two communities can be proud of their stature in this sport. Without a great man that we all call "Coach" our young men, past, present and future would have a very mediocre high school experience. The values they are taught in this game by these wonderful men only amplify and reinforce the education our boys are taught. And that is...how to be men. And heaven knows our society needs MEN. So regardless of who wins this game we all can rest assured that these young men will be prepared to run the show someday.

...the wind begins to creep as All Halows Eve approaches...the dew of early morn" will turn to frost...darkness will turn to chill and with night of harvest moon. The hour slowly approaches...and closer wretchedness creeps. Prepare your men well for time is short...and anxiety high. For on the day of battle the evil Black Train will await...and alas...Nevermore...

Uhh, I wish I had paid attention in my English Lit class.  Too much for my simple mind.  But I am looking forward to this game!

I do think it is funny though that there are 14 pages on this thread and I havent heard a peep on tonights South/North game.  I thought North was supposed to competer for the 3R with Betsy and South.  I was thinking the last time these teams met was 2008, North came in all load n proud and wouldnt shake hands at the coin toss.  I think this was Compusatman's son's senior year.  If I recall the "Spin Doctor" and crew hung 48 and a goose egg on the Raiders.  That'll learn ya to be rude.  I guess i could have started a North/South thread but I'm pretty lazy and it's already Friday.

Well, to be quite honest, there are very few Southers around these parts these days as well. I guess 04' through 09' was Stacy's tenure before exiting to the 'Toppers leaving Haney and Jorden to sort it out. Fact is, Stacy should have hung around. I'm sure the money at the 'Hill was substantial in comparison. And we all like the money. Norths' coach was a 'Raider himself but learned his trade from Mr. Clark. Stacy was the one who brought the Spread to this area and until DB changes its' gameplan to utilize its' talent the one and done mentality will hang like a dark cloud. Stacy has a tremendous talent draw at the 'Hill but I don't think he will ever equall the superior mentality of the South community. And of course the Cyclones and the Greendevils posess that very mentality. It's all about the "Coach".

Oh, what a broad brush you wield, as usual. Many, the majority, have a great high school experience without ever getting near the field of play or anywhere near a coach. Mediocre? I don't think so.  Coaches may have a great and positive influence, but sometimes absolutely not. Certainly the greatest influence, good or bad, in their lives resides in their home. As it should be.

Elizabethton has the most awesome unis. There are so many combinations they can wear. They're the local version of the Oregon Ducks. When you play them late in October that color scheme is spooky. And oh yea, I've always thought "Mister Twister" the fighting cyclone was one of the coolest logos of all time.

What's the uni of choice for this game?

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
