Middle School Football playoff info

Crestview beat Brighton on Monday (10/21) to remain undefeated, and the PA announcer said that they would be playing a team from Memphis in the sectional playoffs this Saturday, either White Station Middle or another Memphis team (can't remember who) at 1:30 PM in Covington.

I also saw this posted on another message board:

The Inman Middle School Bulldogs are coming to Memphis this Saturday to play Lester Middle School in the West Tennessee Sectional Championship game, 1pm at Melrose. Our High School team is undefeated and ranked #1 (5A) in the state, and our middle school is undefeated as well. I know NOTHING about Lester, but they've made it to the championship game so it should be a good one. Fun group of kids to watch.

So, I assume that there are playoff brackets, etc. Somebody has to have that info.

Crestview wins 42-21 over White Station. Sectional champs, I guess. Someone said state champs, but how could that be if only W Tn schools were involved? And, the TSSAA website said they don't recognize any state champs.

So, I guess my question is moot. Season ends with the Chargers undefeated. Looking forward to seeing those players in high school next year.

TMSAA has specific rules concerning middle school football.

1. If your team is not a member school then none of this matters.

2. If your team played 8 regular season games then they are only allowed 1 postseason game.

3. A sanctioned middle school team can at most play 9 games.

4. A sanctioned middle school team can only play one post season game. (Even if they only played 7 regular season games)

5. There are no state playoffs for sanctioned TMSAA schools.

6. Revert to #1. Eligibility rules for players such as transfers, age, grade repeaters and games played do not apply.

So.... if your middle school team played more than 9 games and they are sanctioned then they are in violation. If they are not a member school then they could have 16 and 17 year olds out there playing. Either way there is no such thing as a TMSAA middle school state champ. You can call it what you want but its only on paper. Hope this helps.

*Just checked. Crestview is indeed a member school. I hope this doesn't nullify any post season championship. Hopefully their record was at best 9-0 or they only played one game after the regular season.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
