Anderson County has produced somewhere between 70 and 80 first team all state players. When my daughter played the state also recognized second team all state players, but I don't know how many AC players were recognized. I can't imagine that Farragut or Catholic have more than 7 or 8. For some reason Orcat despises AC and never gives them credit for anything.

Ebther what does CAK do to recognize the girls? One of my daughters favorite memories of playing was making all-state. The school hosted a ceremony where she and her teammates received flowers, and the local paper did a story. The AD would then have a large picture made which is hung on the wall of fame.

Every year at the start of the season coach Cantrell would bring the entire team together and go over the history of the program and recognize each player that had made all state or gone on to play at college. It takes over an hour but it lets the girls learn about the history of the team, and who wore their number in the past. He then challenges them to make their own history. It was cool.

That is what should be done. That's why your school has a volleyball tradition. Bearden hasn't had a good volleyball coach for a long time. They still don't. The Bearden coach didn't even recognize the seniors at the end of the year banquet. No way he recognizes the All State Picks. Especially this year. Only one girl from our team made it.

The amount of All State recipients from your school really shows that your volleyball coaches have built a strong tradition at your school. My hat is off to them!!

The one problem I see is that the News Sentinel has no idea of what is going on with volleyball in our area. I want to say they care, but every time I read the paper about volleyball it is a haphazard article. For instance. The pre season prep extra team had a girl on it from HVA that wasn't even on the volleyball team. Now they have in the paper that the libero from our school was an all state hitter. Who proof reads these articles? Do they REALLY care about volleyball or are they just going through the motions. The volleyball enthusiast in this area should push for the News Sentinel to CARE about volleyball. That's why I will be persuading mine not to play next year.

I agree spike4. I still subscribe to the News Sentinel just to keep up with Tennessee happenings. Volleyball coverage was a joke when we lived down there and still is. Up here volleyball is big. We actually get weekly STANDINGS!

My daughters junior and senior year AC didn't lose a game, not a match mind you, a game,to a Knoxville area team. Yet the Sentinel didn't rank us either year in the pre season poll and we didn't have a single player make the prep extra team even though they we had four girls play college ball.

I agree with the importance of tradition. Our players had to learn the history of the team and the names of the great players. Our banquets were paid for by the coaches, and lasted almost three hours. Every player was recognized and a special story was told about them. They ended with what we needed to work on for next year, none of our girls played club so the coaches gave the girls individual, private, written break downs of their strengths and what they needed to do to get better. Also, you had to earn your spot each season. My daughter worked her butt off her senior year because we had a soph who worked hers off.

Man, this makes me miss it! Oh well, I will be a GREAT grand dad in another 15 years!

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
