Future of Tn Wrestling is Bright

Just got back from Dixie and there were 115 wrestlers from TN which was a record number of kids from our state. Since our high school boys can't participate and some of our Middle School boys are tied up with their teams or prohibited by their conferences from competing in National Tourneys this amount of kids is pretty amazing and bodes well for future of Tn wrestling. More importantly for the future was that this was that according to Ga people I talked to by far the best showing ever for the Tennessee kids.

We had 4 1st place finishes, 11 2nd placers, 7 3rd placers, 6 4th placers, 9 5th placers, and 4 6th placers. Overall it was a really impressive showing by our kids and points to a bright future for TN Wrestling...

every high school and club should plan on each of these boys traveling to the cow palace in February and sit near their area schools and witness the various ceremonies.

50 Medalist by my count (sorted by age group and place) . The folks at Dixie used state as team names. I do not promise this list to be 100% accurate. I apologize if I left anyone off.

I used Salters list and added the clubs and cities for the kids I know then looked the rest up on track. I going to use the same disclaimer as Salter. I don't promise this is 100% accurate and if I made a mistake I'm sorry.

Alrighty then... I see the future of The Bros here, Cleveland area of course, Baylor and a few others in Chatt-town, some middle Tn schools especially Ryan, Mt. Juliet (WC or Mt.J HS?) and Clarksville. Knoxville has several, but where's the future of region one? What a boost and major addition for these areas sending their young bucks to big tournaments like this!

You may not see any Greenevile kids in these results, as none went, but rest assured with +45 kid roster and an active aau presence after their middle school season is complete, they will be just fine in the future. Garrin Shuffler is a name to keep in mind in the future. Kid will be tough. Coach Shelton has them going strong.

I think Liberty Bell (Science Hill) is getting better and better with Coach Price focusing his time on that program also.

I went to Dixie with my two kids as well.  This was our first tournament of this size.  I thought it was a great experience and that TN represented well.  I didn't realize how many TN kids were there until this post.  It's great to see that many kids attending.  While my kids didn't place, it was a great experience and I believe it will make them better wrestling that type of competition. I thought GA and FL was pretty strong overall.  I saw some great wrestling throughout the tournament and felt that some TN kids demonstrated they could compete with some of the best.  I am pretty excited for the way these kids represented TN.  There is a lot to look forward to in the state of TN from youth wrestlers.  One thing I did notice was the amount kids that some clubs from GA and FL had.  They had multiple kids at various weight classes from the same club.  Those kids get to wrestle each other every day in practice and make each other better.  This is one thing I noticed that is different in the state of TN, at least in middle TN.  There are a lot of great clubs in the state of TN but not enough kids in each weight class to really push each other as practice partners.  I felt that's where states such as GA and FL got the upper hand on us, of course they have a much larger population.  I have also noticed this in certain areas of TN, especially those areas where wrestling has a strong following such as Chattanooga.  Middle TN is growing but Metro Nashville doesn't even have a club team that I'm aware of.  I hope wrestling in TN continues to grow and becomes more and more competitive.

    • Wow I haven't been keeping up with softball had no idea.Been keeping up with baseball and we are slowly fading there.I will check it out!!Thx
    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
