DB Vs OR

A pretty old rivalry renewed once again. Between the two these two teams have a lot of history in both hoops and the gridiron. I think OR's radio announcer said OR leads the overall series in basketball 15-13 and I know for a fact the football rivalry is tied 19-19. Doesn't get much closer then that in both sports. Both schools are loaded in tradition throughout the athletic department. Wish I could make this game. OR beat DB earlier in the year in a tournament, but DB of course was without probably their best player (Love?) DB has won 16 in a whopping row in grand fashion and OR is coming off of a humbling defeat to their in-district rival Powell Panthers (very tough loss at that) I see DB taking this game. Don't know by how much, but I think the loss against Powell plus the long ride to DB and playing in their house with revenge from an earlier defeat in play will be too much for my Wildcats. DB has been playing fantastic the past month and a half. I hope my Cats can pull it off, but I don't see it. I think they blew it in the region title game, unfortunately. Hope they prove me wrong. What a great rivalry though between two of the best this state has to offer in terms of athletic tradition. Good luck DB.

Seems like weeks since the Cats put together a full game. They have been winning, but not in their usual fashion. Powell is on a mission, but they do not have the quality of teams in Murfreesboro. Merrion and Steen have faded and someone should put out an APB on Maddox. Hope the Cats turn it around.

You're right. I have been saying that awhile now. Ever since we beat Karns @ home during the regular season we haven't been playing good. Maybe the long schedule has finally caught up with us or something? Who knows, but we definitely haven't looked like the same team for awhile now.

SS . . . you are well informed - a true sports fan. I grew up watching DB/OR in football and basketball. Love the competition and respect each school has for the other. That also carries over into the classroom. My wife use to work in OR and we have noticed how similar our two cities are. I will be at the game and expect a good one. (ps - wish we could get our football series going again)

Gaddis is trying his best to get DB back on the schedule in football. Should be a good game tonight. OR will be fighting an uphill battle. Best wishes.

I guess my Jeff. Co Pats will be seeing your cats sometime next week Congrats, I guess getting beat by DB is the best thing that could have happened and playing Powell who likes to play a slower tempo definitely helped. Boro bound baby!!

Is this the 1st time Jeff Co has ever made it to state? Either way congratulations. To beat a tough team like Powell at their house by that much is IMPRESSIVE.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
