Powell leads the series 10-9 with last years victory putting Powell on a 4 game win streak over Anderson County.  Last years 41-27 loss to Powell was Anderson Countys only regular season loss.  Powell has been one of those teams that always seems to have AC’s number and coach Gillum has gone 2-7 against the panthers since becoming the head coach at Anderson County.  The last time the Mavs won this matchup was in a 24-21 upset win at Powell in the 2^nd round of the playoffs advancing AC to the quarterfinals and standing as the only loss for the Panthers that season.  With the new coaching changes at Powell and them struggling to keep things going on the offensive side of the ball coupled with an improved defense for the Mavs this looks like the season that AC can get back in the win column against Powell and possibly remain undefeated at 6-0.  With the rescent history of AC Struggling against the Panthers I look for the coaching staff to instill in the minds of the players the importance of this game and do not forsee a mental letdown for AC and think they will get the win on the road.  With the balanced attack on offense and a strong defense I think AC posses a lot of problems for the Panthers and with Powell averaging giving up over 40 points a game I see AC winning this one big to remain on course.  Look for Smith, Fox and Johnson to put up some big numbers Friday night as the Mavs cruise on the road.

Powell will always present a problem for AC. AC will have to take this game serious however this option like offense I find it hard for any team to stop especially when you have so many directions to go. If defense shows up this will even the series easily.

A little FYI for the Maverick fans, if AC can pull off the win on Friday night it will mark only the 3rd time in school history that AC will start the season 6-0 and AC has never started a season 7-0.

Was looking at one of the databases this year and something jumped out at me, the average scoring listed per qtr:

 

1st qtr

AC: 11.7     Powell: 0

 

2nd Qtr

AC: 10.3     Powell: 8.0

 

3rd Qtr

AC: 14.0     Powell: 0

 

4th Qtr

AC: 7.0      Powell: 2

 

Has Powell seriously not scored in the first or third qtr this season?  That seems like a strange statistic, maybe Osunut can fill us in on this.

This has become a big game ever since we had to cancel a game because of thunder and lightning at our field and then the next year we spoiled Powell's undefeated season. Powell has always thought we cancelled that game because of the monsoon since we were 85 percent passing then. We nearly beat them two years ago on the last play of the game but Middleton, who was just a freshman then, made a play. Powell went on to the semifinals that year. This year the Mavs should prove too much for a very down Powell squad. AC 39, Powell 6.
