WHITEHAVEN vs ARLINGTON

Whitehaven cruises through this quarterfinal. May want to get some out of town refs. They seem to throw a lot of flags when Arlington starts to lose.

After seeing the Houston game, you may be on to something there.

You know, when I read the account of the Arlington win I got to thinking about it. There is no way that I would have been able to get any sleep Friday night if I was a Houston player/senior. You talk about getting hit in the GUT. First, on what everybody thought was the last play of the game, the refs throw a pass interference flag against Houston. That's a 15 yard penalty, which means, instead of the ball being on the 38 yard line ... it's moved up to the 23 yard line. THEN ... on the last play of the game ... no time on the clock when the ball was snapped, TWO Houston defenders touch the ball and the Arlington player STILL catches the ball for a 23 yard 'WALK OFF' TD.

Just ... ponder that for a moment.

Man! ... I don't know if I could have dealt with that emotionally. I know that I wouldn't have been able to get any sleep that night if I were a Houston player.

MAN ... that just HAD to suck BIG TIME!

Houston kids went from celebrating what they thought was a win to complete shock. I know they didn't get any sleep that night. Gotta wonder if it was the same crew you talked about earlier in the year kwc.

I'm not necessarily saying this was bad officiating. I don't know. I wasn't there. It could/may have very well been the correct call.

My whole point was to emphasize the sheer magnitude of the turn of events. Stuff like that only happens in the movies. I can't imagine living through that ordeal from the Houston perspective. If the Arlington coach thought that is was surreal, what do you think the Houston coach thought? Like I said earlier, that's a 'punch in the gut' if I ever saw one.

Wow, interesting comment, especailly considering the refereeing at your home stadium ( the two or is it 3 games i attended). I have seen Arlington play just about every varsity game in their history and one thing I can say with certainty, the referees have not favored them. I personally think Arlington is lucky to get an even called game, until last few years.

As far as last week's game, Arlington was lucky to win the game. The PI call was legit though. Arlington had over 10+ penalties for over 100+yards of penalties against them last week, definately did not get preferential treatment. Houston is a tough, talented, and well coached team, and Arlington was lucky to advance.

Whitehaven is an incredible program. They field talented, tough well coached teams every year...incredible tradition.

It is refreshing to see an Arlington fan/supporter. I had forgotten that you roamed these boards. Welcome sir. I'm sure you were amazed at the turn of events in last week's game for sure.

If you don't mind, tell all of us about this Arlington team with it's amazing freshman QB. What to look for and what not. In turn, I'll answer any questions you have concernig Whitehaven to the best of my ability.

I think this is the third meeting between our programs isn't it? I remember those games have always been very good between two well coached teams.

Do you anticipate a large crowd coming to Whitehaven stadium to support the team this Friday?

Arlington's program is nothing to sneeze at either. Well put together.

Sorry for Arlimgton having lots of penalties Friday. At least they still are playing. But when Oakland came to Arlington this year on 9.12.2014 it was a flag fest. Nevermind the score but I would guess Oakland had 200 yards in penalties. Just seemed a bit one sided if you recall that game. The box score may show how many the visitors had. Good luck to both teams.

Yep, I was there. I saw several unsportsmanlike and personal foul calls as the game turned. Sorry i couldn't hear what was being said on the field, but I didn't see too much complaining about it. Those type of penalties add up fast, but not calling them leads to things getting out of hand.

"The box score may show" hmmmm, not sure how to respond to that. You must be a jokester. This is why I post very seldom, because of zealots, Johnny's dad type, crazy youngsters...and just straight up haters. Let me say this, I have personally seen Oakland get their share of calls. Coming on here making people think Arlington gets all the calls, because you watched one game is a joke. Go look the box scores up there yourself, I got no reason to, because I have watched around 90-100 Arlington games. All teams commit penalties, especially holding offensive and defensive. Some teams seem to get away with more or less. The more successful a program becomes the more calls they seem to get, IMO.

I have a lot of respect for Coach McDaniels and his family. He and his brother are former Panthers like my brother and i. I personally know his parents and brother...they are great people. Oakland has a great team and a great coaching staff. Good luck to them.

I know we played once probably 3 years ago, Reed's junior year. As far as crowd, I hope we will fill up the stands, but IDK...the weather probably will have an effect. Arlington has been a competitive team most weeks this year, the QB has been part of it. Hopefully, we can be competitive this week.

I really appreciate your posts and the game contest, i enjoy reading the picks and posts. Thanks for giving Memphis a place on this board. Good luck.

You're right. Whitehaven and Arlington played against each other once during the 2nd round in 2011. That was a hard faught game where Whitehaven pulled it out towards the end.

I also hope you guys fill up the stands. I have no doubt that Arlington will be competitive like they are most Friday nights.

I try to give Memphis a voice on this board. Feel free to join our frolic and giddiness in the future. Nevermind the haters, zealots, and Johnny's Dads ... they are everywhere ... just ignore them. Why, I've been dubbed a Whitehaven zealot on occasion. It was a hoot! If your not careful ... you'll be labeled a Arlington crazy, or something or other.

Ahhhhhhhhhh ... fandom!
