Hypothetical transfer eligibility question.

Sammy is playing for team X this spring in baseball. Team X is eliminated from the district tournament. His parents move the next day to town Y and enroll Sammy at YHS. Is Sammy immediately eligible to play for team Y?

It depends if team X and team Y are both public schools or a private is involved. If both are public and there is a legitimate change of address from one school district to another then he will be eligible. If one or both of the schools is private, then a 20 mile radius will come into effect, even if there is a change of address.

I would assume the rule would apply during the season as well. Very interesting question.

This is from the handbook which bluecollar is referencing

Q. A student transfers to a school because the student’s parents have moved to the community in which the school is located. The student’s scholastic and athletic records are satisfactory. May such a student be allowed to participate pending the approval of his/her transfer by the Executive Director?
A. No. All transfer students must be approved by the Executive Director before being allowed to participate.

Now, I don't know the specifics but a football player from Oliver Springs transferred to Coalfield after Oliver Springs season had ended and played for Coalfield in the playoffs -- how long did it take to get approved?

Here's the short discussion of it on CoachT

No, an athlete is only allowed to participate in a sport for one season during the school calendar year. Several years ago there was one state that played girls soccer in the Fall and a border state that played soccer in the Spring. The girls would play in the Fall at one school and move 5 miles across the state line and play for the other school after Christmas break. This action created the current rule.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
