Clarksville Wrestling

Clarksville is going to be fine. Everybody needs to calm down. They have the right coach and they have the right coach in the Middle School/AAU Team working up there so be patient. Clarksville will come back. They are going through what every program goes through and that is a down time. Give Coach Badon a couple of years and this will be an afterthought.

This happens when coaches leave when the cuppard is bare and this is not the first time it has happened at Clarksville.

Coach Badon and Clarksville will be back.

I also agree that Coach Badon is a fine person and a competent coach, but that was the secondary question. The question is what is the problem with Clarksville wrestling.

A feeder program is very important, but Clarksville High has never had much happening there. Artie Manning was definitely valuable to the program, but Artie was doing his part long before Clarksville won their first region title and was still there for three years after they stopped winning

titles. Injuries? Who doesn't have injuries. Apathetic kids? Why did kids suddenly become apathetic after twenty years of not being so? Too successful for too long? I will just say Father Ryan.

I think that if you really want to know the truth, you should ask your fiercest rivals. Ask Soddy, Bradley, Cleveland, Ravenwood or Independence. They can probably tell you what has changed and what the problem is better than anyone else.

I once was at a meeting where the coaches were asking for the districts to be realigned based on splitting up the powerhouses. The TSSAA director said no. He said that schools are not inherently superior or inferior to one another. He said that the TSSAA would never base divisions on separating the powers because the powers always seem to follow certain coaches. Where those coaches go, there goes the power.

There are certain coaches who can do things with and for teams that others simply cannot. Tradition and feeder programs are important but rarely can they alone carry the day. Father Ryan certainly has both of these, but I don't think anyone would venture that Ryan would have won a fraction of their titles without Coach Simpson. Father Ryan seems to know something that others may have missed. If you ever get your paws on an extraordinary coach, never let him go.

Team Clarksville was 2nd in points out of 82 teams at this weekend's AAU State Championships. We crowned more state champions than any other team in the state (7). CHS had 10 freshmen starting and getting lots of varsity experience this season. A great group of middle schoolers moves up to CHS this year and the flow will now continue. I'm very excited about the future. Thanks everyone for the concern, but it's all under control and we'll be OK.

I know Jeff personally.  He coached my youngest in travel soccer.

I'm not bashing the current feeder program or current coaching

staff, BUT  Jeff is on a different level as a coach.  Just the fact !

He demanded more than most, and the kids rise to his expectation.

    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
