Question on non-conference games

How do non-conference games work?     Do schools sign a contract to play each other for X years?     Or do you just start calling up non-con schools and try to schedule games each year?

Usually most schools sign 2 year deals with a home and away. I've seen some small schools sign deals where they play a bigger school away 2 years in a row.

Well maybe that explains it.    Boone's last 3 seasons have been total disasters, yet we keep scheduling non-con games against Science Hill, Greeneville, Elizabethton, etc.....    Games that are over by the 2nd quarter.      Perhaps Boone contracted for those games a few years ago and now you have to pay the piper.

Wouldn't you consider Science Hill, South, and Elizabethton and maybe Tennessee High natural regional rivals? Maybe not Greeneville so much.

Oh yeah they are natural rivals, but the problem is that they are also unwinnable games for us.  For the last few years Boone has been outmanned at every position, and the record bears that out.    I would think think someone would see this trend and try to sprinkle a few Volunteers, Centrals, etc. in there.    Getting your brains beat out every week does little to build morale amongst the guys and it doesn't make the next generation want to play Boone football.    I already know of some incoming freshmen who are going to skip football and play other sports.

Yes, I wish Boone was better and could compete in these games but sometimes there are just no more horses left in the stable.

NOTE:    no complaints about our conference games, we have to play them and take our lumps, we are only talking here about optional opponents.     Happy trails fellas.......
