I wouldn't hire gentry personally. He has cost Maynard a lot games in tight moments that shouldn't have lost. Great motivator and players coach but not a head football coach. Lebanon needs a young vibrant coach to come and set the standard of winning. The only way they can achieve this is by running a wide open spread offense unlike harp did in his tenure.

i hear nothing but good things about gentry from cookeville and carthage people. you sound like a guy that wants to down him so he can take over at sc one day. I say bring him on and lets go.

down him? what do you mean. And why are you assuming I am a Smith County fan? He runs a solid scheme but like I said it has cost him a lot of games by him trying to run an offense he does not have the personnel for.  Would be a good oc due to athletes at Leb but not head coach

Listen carefully! I know that you watch all the very good spread teams in college, and you are certain that a vibrant spread offense is the answer, Here is a HS fact.....you can ALWAYS run the ball, but you cannot ALWAYS throw the ball. The 2016 Lebanon QB could not throw it in the ocean. Sam Harp is a very good coach that took a (currently) bad job; he would have opened up his offense if it was possiblle...it was not!

Case in point.......MJ has been a spread type team for about the last 3 years; they started the season still trying to fling it, and they lost (2) early games. Someone at MJ realized that your "vaunted" spread offense was not getting it done; so they went back to smash and dash and running the clock and winning football games.

So does Lebanon need a young energetic coach          absolutely, and there are some good local ones nearby. Gentry is one of those young energetic coaches with a pretty good pedigree; he has worked with Maynord (excellent HS FB coach), but there are others nearby; if they have even applied. So, getting a good young one is a really good way to go IMHO.

Here is what I am trying to tell you, Colleges have at least triple the time each week to work on their offense AND they get to go and recruit the appropriate type player needed for their type offense...........they can run what ever they choose to do.

In HS, you gotta go with what is in the building. If you do not have a PASSER (* denotes accuracy) AND catchers (* denotes ability to run after the catch). So, to make a blanket statement of the need of a spread offense is quite simply HORSE-HOCKEY!

They could run the spread at Lebanon high school. The Qb isn't that bad to be just a sophomore and actually be thrown into a position with out really any instruction or extra work. running the spread is something  you have to work on for more than 2 months. and why would you have a bunch of 150lb backs running the wing t from a tight set with no blocking.          Lebanon high isn't Smith County. Everyone is watching and paying attention to this coach search process :popcorneater:

there are plenty of spread to run teams in college that have been successful ie: auburn ohio state app state oregon under kelly and WV under rich rod. The spread creates number advantages in the box to open up run game and it helps the passing game bc its harder to disguise coverages and it makes for easy throws for qbs who might not be the best. And a fast tempo offense would bring more kids out to play than a boring wing t offense. Also it is a lot easier to install the spread than other offenses due its simplicity there are plenty of examples of this as well. I agree that the qb this year was not a great passer but given the right coaching and ability to it could have been different. Also, the spread helps bc if your line is small it takes advantage of this and can use it to your advantage. If your line is big however it is even more hard to stop. I just feel it would greatly help the blue devil program

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
