So excited for this game!

Baylor Red Raiders

Offensively

Quarterback:

Junior QB Lorenzo White is somewhat of a returning strarter. He split reps with Bryce Verble (graduated) and Trustan Mcarter (transfer) before the Senior Verble came back from injury and won the job. Has some experience and can throw a pretty ball. He will need to be consistent and accurate and to find a new go to receiver.

Offensive Line:

Baylors offensive line is extremely well coached. Riley Bodine is a three year starter and should lead well with Colorado commit Walker Culver. Not a huge line for D2AAA but has good size and athleticism. They will open up holes for Baylor and should provide enough time for White to find a new target.

Running Backs:

4Star Athlete Brendon Harris will play even more on the offensive side of the ball than he did last year. Harris appears to have gotten faster which will give most teams more than they want. Noah Martin is a sophomore that reminds a lot of the Baylor faithful of Ryan Parker as a young player. He will be out this game with an injury. Mike Benning will also get carries and is a change of pace for Brendon as a bigger back. They likely will make a very good combo this year.

Recievers:

Baylor lost their 3 starting wide receivers that were very productive in their career. This is a weakness that they look to fill with Senior Jaylon Baker (D1 offers as a DB) and Dee Applebeery. Mike Benning will also play some Tight End and is a big target for White. Other players will have the chance to step up as a strength for the Red Raiders last year has become a need.

Defensively

Defensive Line:

Baylor takes a hit at D-Line from graduation but will be very well coached. Usually Baylor plays with a 3 man front with their defensive scheme so it doesn't look like a a huge level of concern despite losing Cole Johnson (UTC) and Tyree Toliver (Cornell).

Linebackers:

Baylor has always been known for their linebacker play. While they have very talented starters they are all new except Junior Cooper Lewis who has put on quite a bit of muscle since last season. Sophomore Noah Martin was a slated starter as well before going down in preseason. This may be a weakness for this game as Baylor doesn't have as much depth as usual at this spot. When healthy however this a very talented aggressive group.

Seconday:

The best Secondary in Chattanooga and one of the best in the state boast 4Star Safety Brendon Harris (Tennessee Commit) and D1 prospect Jaylon Baker. Junior Moose Vaughn and Sophomore Gabriel Stulce are also very talented and will make their fair share of plays. This is the strength of the Baylor Defense.

Special Teams:

Special teams is made up of want to and good coaching. Baylor will be solid here.

Would love a breakdown of ND before the big game!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
