The Commercial Appeal: Whitehaven's French decommits from Arkansas

https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/10/20/arkansas-football-recruiting-martavius-french-decommits-razorbacks/4047797002/

Whitehaven senior linebacker Martavius French has reopened his recruitment.

French, who committed to Arkansas in July, announced his decommitment to the SEC program Sunday afternoon on his Twitter account.

"DECOMMITTED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS! No interviews please," French tweeted.

He confirmed his decommitment in a text message to The Commercial Appeal. He declined an interview request.

The announcement came after French returned from an official visit to Arkansas to see the Razorbacks lose 51-10 to Auburn. He attended the game with Whitehaven linebackers Bryson Eason and Tamarion McDonald.

French's current Twitter profile picture was taken while he attended a Tennessee game. He took an official visit to Tennessee and watched the Vols lose 43-14 to Georgia.

Tennessee is currently recruiting linebackers French, Eason and McDonald. The Vols also have made an offer to sophomore offensive lineman Aliou Bah.

French, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound athlete, is currently the No. 10 prospect in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite, and is the No. 15 inside linebacker in the country.

French was No. 7 on The Commercial Appeal's inaugural Dandy Dozen, a collection of the top college football prospects from the Memphis area.

Big news! I think UT may be in play big time for the Big 3... Even though they should consider U of Memphis some.

It tells me that after you take an official visit with your dudes, and you decommit afterwards, that's not good for the school that you just had an official visit with.

I think UT is in play big-time. So it's supposed to be Mississippi State and the University of Memphis left to visit.

I hope U of M gets them, even tho Norvell may be gone before we know it but he'll leave on an up note as opposed to Pruitt!

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
