Just curious as to why Coffee Co who finished runner up in their district didnt go play the winner of the Oakland/Stewarts Creek game last night? I thought that the top 2 teams from each district moved to regionals.

I see what you are saying. I looked on twitter and googled but couldn't find an answer. One article I found said they would travel to play Oakland, but twitter has Lincoln Co. losing to Oakland.

"Oakland will play Coffee County on Tuesday in the region tournament semifinal, while Stewarts Creek will play Columbia Central, also on Tuesday."

I think someone has entered the results into Coach T incorrectly as to what stage it was in the District.

See I thought that the district tournament champion and runner up moved on to the regional tournament. Lincoln Co. won the district regular season title, but was put out by Columbia as the article above says in the district tournament. Columbia then went on to beat Coffee Co. in the district tournament championship game. Never heard of the district tournament champion and regular season champion moving on to regionals in anything.

Some Districts have voted that the team winning the regular season has an automatic bid to the Region Semis.  I think this is the case for Lincoln Co.

That's what I heard too yesterday after the discussion was posted. Still kind of sucks to finish runner up in your tournament and not get to move on though. Glad they don't do that in basketball... LOL!

As Cobra touched on, the District 8 coaches chose to award the regular season champion an automatic bid to Region play in the event they did not advance to the district tournament final.

The tournament champion advances to Region play as the District 8 champion. The District 8 runner up is EITHER the regular season champion or, if the regular season champion also won the tournament championship, the tournament runner up.

    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
    • during the 2nd round of the playoffs last year against Milan, Gray partially tore his meniscus. He had a minor repair around Thanksgiving. Recovery time was minimal and he has been full force for baseball this season.

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
