Memphis Central at Germantown - Round 2

Memphis Central will try and play spoiler in Round 2 against unbeaten Germantown. The . Red Devils were in a similar spot last season when they were defeated by White Station, a team they defeated with ease in the regular season. The Red Devils won 28-7 in the regular season vs. Central, their lowest output of the year. They will be on full alert and I expect their best effort in this one. Central has a strong defense, but its lack of a throwing game has hurt them in their losses, even though they have a LSU commit at WR. I'm going with a 35-14 victory for the Red Devils in this one.

I'm thinking this over/undr of 49 is pretty good for this game.

Not sure about the score in this one.  If Germantown doesn't come out focused, the game can get interesting.

Arlington came out last week and had more focus and intensity than Germantown which resulted in a

14-14 tie at the half. They did go on to put up 37 points in the 2nd half but Central isn't Arlington.

No they aren't. Arlington has a passing offense. Their defense leaves something to be desired though. Central, on the other hand, has a D-1 WR who can go up and get it, if his QB can get it in his vicinity. However, that Central D is pretty stout. If Central's QB could hit a simple hitch route ... man.

You think this could be a trap game for G-town? Get caught looking ahead to the Whitehaven/Houston winner?

No way it is a trap game. You have last year's second round upset to White Station to point to, plus the Germantown head coach has a lot of respect for Major Wright and Central's talent level. You can never be overconfident when you play at this level. Not saying they can't be upset at this stage, but it won't be because they are overlooking anyone. As a side note, I hate the way the 6A does its playoffs where you have to get by a real good team TWICE to get out of the city.

I think the team remembers that fast exit last year as well. I don't think they will overlook Central either.

Well ... there are only 9 6A teams on this side of the state. You have to go all the way to the Nashville area to find another 6A school. The 6A teams in the Memphis/Shelby County area will probably have to beat a good team twise to make it to the semi-finals. In a lot of instances, they will have to beat two good teams ... twice. It is what it is. Better have your tumbs available.
