My middle son who played at Blackman is now over at Rockvale as we got caught in the rezoning. He just wasn't passionate about football and with all my own battles I wasn't going to hover over him and push him to do something he didn't love to please me. They have enough peer pressure about crap that doesn't matter to have me compound it by what I want for him, rather than what he wants for himself. But I'LL STILL BE A BLAZE FAN...

That's the right call, B45. Great as HS Football is, it's great because fans, players & coaches share a equal passion for the sport

I agree, they'll be coming for your lil Blaze fellurs

I think rockvale will get better too, but my son says since coach hartsfield changed his OC around, the offense seems to be getting a little better.  Hopefully with the addition of a couple more offensive coaches in the off season, the blaze will be a force for years to come!  just wish we wouldn't have waited so long to make offensive changes...not sure on that one.

Blackman has problems that go beyond the offense, it's just the most glaring one, protecting their QB is another. Just moving coaches around isn't going to solve the problem. As stated earlier, letting Oliver and Cunningham go elsewhere was a critical mistake. If I was Beam, with a baseball scholarship already in hand, I'd have serious doubts about playing my senior year.

Then you got to bring up their feeder programs, which lost big to Oakland at  every level to the point where they are competing with Riverdale more than they are competing with Oakland. When you sink the kind of money Blackman has into their program, you can't lose 4-5 games in any season and expect to be there long

I see your points on a lot of that.

I don't know coach oliver, he was here before we got here, but coach cunningham everyone loved, he did a great job with the lineman....hated to lose him, but understand leaving to be an OC at rockvale

Ask B45 about either, he'll vouch for them. Cunningham should have been OC the moment Hartsfield got the job

Both Cunningham and Oliver were great Coaches. I don't know what  the rub was or why Oliver left other than he got the position he wanted elsewhere.  But All of his O-line loved him.. He was in there backside, but they loved him

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
